A stunning looking church that really stands out among the surrounding buildings in Manhattan. The Gothic style architecture, detailed stonework, and tall spires give it a very grand and historic appearance, especially along such a busy avenue. Even just viewing it from the outside, the church has a very elegant and peaceful presence compared to the fast paced atmosphere around it. It’s a beautiful landmark to pass by while exploring Fifth Avenue and definitely worth stopping for a closer look.

St. Thomas Church is an Episcopal parish church of the Episcopal Diocese of New York. The current structure was designed by the architects Ralph Adams Cram and Bertram Grosvenor Goodhue in the French High Gothic Revival style and completed in 1914. I went there during Christmas 2025.

Beautiful church building, beautiful music, heavenly choir. I only wish the gospel of the Reformed heritage--as William Tyndale, Hugh Latimer, Thomas Cranmer, J.C. Ryle, J.I. Packer, and many other great Anglicans predecessors upheld--is preached again here.

Stunning chapel! We enjoyed this experience more than St. Patrick’s because it was smaller and not as crowded. The woodwork is amazing. It’s a chapel that you can sit in for a really long time to reflect.

I attended the 10pm Christmas service at St. Thomas. After reading so much about their Christmas concerts and services, I arrived a bit early—before the doors opened at 9:30pm. Unfortunately, the experience felt poorly organized and surprisingly commercial. Also, as if no one really cared about managing the crowd. Most people were directed to sit in the back while large “Reserved Seating” signs blocked off the entire front half of the church. The strange part: those reserved sections were only about one-third full. Meanwhile, late arrivals were ushered into the better seats, which made the seating system feel completely illogical. The organ played continuously, but it was unclear whether it was a rehearsal or the actual start of the program—especially with inconsistent sound levels and people chatting loudly throughout. Coming straight from another truly impeccable Christmas service earlier in the evening, the contrast was hard to ignore. The real highlights at St. Thomas were the choir—beautifully conducted with truly impressive voices—and the stunning church itself. Unfortunately, the sermon felt mediocre and unnecessarily political for the occasion, which took away from the overall Christmas atmosphere.

Amazing organ music on Easter Sunday. Beautiful church close to St Patrick’s Cathedral. Worth going in.
