My family and I had a blast at our visit yesterday! My fiance came here with his family growing up in the area and was excited to introduce us to this place! It's definitely a smaller park, easier to navigate, and on the right day, not so busy that you're waiting forever for rides. The souvenir free refill option is a great value. And even food in the restaurants aren't crazy expensive for the amount you're getting. They have stroller and wagon rental and allow soft sided coolers. There's lots of picnic area. Kiddieland for the littles, Lost Kennywood is very nostalgic. All in all, a wonderful day! Can't wait to check out Idlewild! Would be a 5 star if some rides we wanted weren't closed down. Think maybe it was a staffing issue but didn't know for sure. 10/10 would definitely recommend though. Can't wait to come back for the Halloween festivities!
We were in the Pittsburgh area and since I've heard so much about Kennywood over the years we decided to give this park a try. It's on the smaller side but packs a big punch! The Phantom's Revenge and Steel Curtain are both top tier coasters that are as good as you'd get at the best parks anywhere. Kennywood also has a couple of historical roller coasters over 100 years old which are really neat to ride. We got here right when the park opened, spent about 2 hours hitting all of the rides we wanted to try, and waited no longer then 5 minutes a ride. It was amazing time and we both would highly recommend Kennywood!
Kennywood is a historic and relatively average amusement park that has operated since the late 19th century, with a distinctive blend of classic wooden roller coasters, modern thrill rides, and nostalgic atmosphere. Positives include the solid ride lineup, friendly staff, and recent chaperone policy improvements. The ineffecies in ride operations are the major flaw. Dispatch procedures and overall throughput proceed at a slower pace than observed at comparable parks, leading to extended wait times even on days of moderate attendance. These inefficiencies substantially reduce the number of attractions experienced during a visit. Management would benefit from visiting better-run parks and learning how to operate rides efficiently. They are currently leaving at least 30% ride efficiency improvements unrealized. The ride operation inefficiency makes purchasing a Speedy Pass a good idea to avoid long waits, even on a weekday. Given the amount of money the park invested in Steel Curtain, the general inability to run more than 1 train on a consistent basis is puzzling. The most recent (stricter) chaperone policy update appears to have been effective - less "teenagers", more families. Overall, the park is worth visiting at least once. It isn't a destination park, but it's not a bad place to stop if passing through the area.
Nice theme park not far from Pittsburgh located along the Monongahela River. Contains three classic wooden coasters. Atleast two of them are Ace Landmark coasters. The Steal Curtain is an impressive coaster themed to the Pittsburgh Stealers football team. It owns several records including most inversions in North America. The Phantom's Revenge is a popular coaster that dives down a ravine and through the old wooden Thunderbolt coaster. The Sky Rocket coaster didn't impress me. Could have been the long wait to get on in the scorching sun. Capacity is limited on Sky Rocket when only one train is running. The slow crawl back into the station doesn't help. Don't miss out on The Exterminator. It's tucked away in a corner and it's almost as hard to find as the entrance to Phantoms Revenge. It's an indoor spinning wild mouse in the dark. It feels completely out of control! Great ride!
Even as someone who's not vey into roller coasters or intense rides I still had a great time. Just watching some of the rides from a distance that I would never get on was quite entertaining, and the whole park emitted a great carefree atmosphere that fulfills the goal of an amusement park in my mind. I really enjoyed learning about the history of this place, and funnily enough, the small train ride that departs out of the kids area was one of the highlight of my day, and it lead through the back of the parks, describing the history of the land awhile taking the riders past artifacts from the older rides. This place is no Disney World, but it does a solid job at being KennyWood.
Had a great time at Kennywood! We visited Saturday night, enjoyed the rides and food, and ended the night with the Drone Show. The synchronized light-up bracelets were such a fun touch and made the experience even more memorable. Can’t wait to come back!
This place is fun! Admittedly I had never heard of it prior to this trip with my fiancé, but she was excited to go and I can see why! We went on a Friday afternoon, so it wasn’t too crowded. We didn’t have to wait in long lines, and had a great time on the roller coasters. Her favorite was the Phantom, but I was partial to the Steel Curtain myself. Prices online were reasonable for two people, but if you buy in park it will cost you. Overall, if you have the time, it’s a fun place to spend your day.
