We came in around 8pm on a Sunday during memorial weekend. Seating took a little bit, which was fine and we expected. Everyone working was personable, and knowledge. We had a few questions on what to get and sizing, and they were able to offer recommendations for us. The poutine was delicious. We did get a small, and honestly we could’ve got a little more and have been stuffed, but we wanted to save a little room for dinner. I got the lobster roll special, it was so great. The bun was so soft, and the lime added such a zesty flavor. My husband ordered the cubano sandwich, he really liked it, he did say it was a little meat heavy, and wasn’t able to finish. We finished the meal with the sea salted duckfat milkshake, and were able to take it to go. It was insane. So good, but would reccomend splitting it with someone because of how heavy it is. Overall would reccomend anyone stopping by Portland to come in to Duckfat.

Alright yeah, it looks like one of those new age “everything is expensive because it’s niche” type of places… but lemme tell you that not only was it pretty reasonably priced, it was FANTASTIC. Colin was our server and he was patient, answered all our questions, and deserves everything. Food was five stars all around and if it gives you the option to add duck… you may as well ducking do it. They smoke their meats anywhere from 6-8 hours, pickle their own cucumbers… everything is from scratch. Astounding taste and officially ties first place for me in terms of restaurants in Portland, Maine. Top notch. No notes.

First, Bri was a wonderful waitress. She was friendly, wholesome, and wonderful to chat with. She made excellent food recommendations for paninis, poutine, soups and shakes. Second, Calvin was an amazing hostess. He was very accommodating and friendly. Third, the food was all around delicious. Hands down, they have the best New England clam chowder I've ever had. Their poutine gravy was spectacular. I hope to return sooner than later. Their milkshakes...they definitely are the best and did bring me to the yard 😂

This is one of the few places I’d recommend dining solo - I felt like I had TSA PreCheck when I was able to find a seat while others waited (sometimes over an hour) for seats. If you’re a larger group, I might even consider ordering to-go. I ordered the duck confit poutine. A slab of seared duck confit, lacquered and crackling, sat on top like it owned the place. Underneath were fries, real cheese curds that still had some life in them, and a gravy that didn’t overpower the rest. I have had many great poutines, but this might be the best one I’ve had outside of Québec. For dessert: a blueberry milkshake with Kate’s buttermilk - you can’t get more “Maine” than that! Served in a proper soda-fountain glass with a candy-striped straw and extra shake. Maine blueberries are small, intense, and wildly flavorful. The shake tasted like summer in a place that knows how hard summer has to work to clear out all the cold and slush that (still) lingered outside. Order the poutine. Order the shake. Don’t overthink it.

Duckfat exceeded my expectations in terms of the food. We ordered plain fries with a flight of five sauces and they really were the best fries I've ever had, with the sauces being a great compliment. The Brussel sprouts were delicious and the milkshakes were to die for, especially the chocolate and the cookies and cream. My only two gripes are that a) indoor seating is tight, and b) I initially wanted to order food to go instead of dining in because of the line and small restaurant, but they said online ordering was shut off that day, which I wasn't aware of before. Overall, a good experience.

Well worth all the buzz I saw online. Amazing food with a depth a flavor that can only be achieved when a top level chef cares about their craft. Get there early and get there hungry. The poutine is a must with the duck egg and duck confit.

Duckfat is a must-try stop in Portland. Dine in an intimate, rustic bistro. Menu features sandwiches and entrees, creative beverages, and… duck. The poutine is a popular choice and reflects Maine’s historic French-Canadian heritage. The staff are friendly, informative, and attentive. This is a popular spot, try for reservations or anticipate a wait for walk-ins.
