Monteverde absolutely lived up to the hype. The Cacio e Pepe was perfectly executed with incredible flavor, and the Pomodoro Spaghetti showed how amazing simple, fresh ingredients can be. The Wagyu beef skewers were tender, flavorful, and cooked just right. And whatever you do, beware the tiramisu. The portion is incredibly generous, but every bite is worth it. It’s rich, creamy, and the perfect way to end the meal. The staff was warm, friendly, and attentive, making the entire lunch experience even more enjoyable. I would happily come back the next time I’m in Chicago.

Visitor notes
Worth the hype. Pasta is all made in house and you can tell. The cacio whey pepe was the best thing on the table. Loud and lively, service was great, and prices are fair for the quality. Hard to get a res but worth planning ahead. One of the best Italian spots in the city.
I came to celebrate my Birthday at Monteverde and would highly recommend. It was my first time here, mostly because it's hard to snag an online reservation and I obviously see why! The service was very comforting and being able to watch the pasta making station was a great touch to the atmosphere. The FOOD was spectacular! We order what was highly recommended: Burrata e ham, cacio whey pepe, and the lasagna al forno. The lasagna was my favorite dish, but really everything was amazing, the fresh pasta and flavor combinations makes this place and their dishes so memorable. Not only do they have some of the best pasta dishes in Chicago, do not skip out on their desserts! The tiramasu was amazing. I can write about all the flavors and dishes, but really you should try it out yourselves! Highly recommeded Chicago staple.
I was surprised by the quality of the food and the great vibe of the restaurant. Our appetizer, the shrimp scampi on the half shell, was one of our favorite dishes of the evening. It was rich in flavor and a generous portion for 4 people. I ordered the Cacio whey Pepe for my entree and was very curious about adding whey to a simple Northern Italian dish. It was excellent! I would’ve like a little more pecorino cheese sauce and a traditional spaghetti noodle instead of fusilloni (a thicker version of fusilli) but it was really delicious. We tasted each other’s entrees including the wok -fried arrabbiata and (2) gnocchetti con pesto and each meal had delightfully complex flavors and unique recipes. The food was served hot, which is not something that happens at a lot of restaurants. I’m a coconut fan so ordered a couple of chocolate dipped forgotten cookies and the warm dark chocolate tart for the table. This was a fantastic way to bookend a rich and flavorful meal. The cocktails and wine were excellent but they need to have more than just one Cabernet by the glass on the menu (Routestock Napa Valley $24). I highly recommend Monteverde and we’ll be back to try some of their other creative recipes.
Love this place and each time we have something new that is amazing. One of the best Italian in the USA. If you want epic meal. My recs: Jamie’s Calabrian Pimento Cheese (OMG!) Roman Eggplant Parm (A-mazing!) Tortelli Grandi Fusilli Con Ragú Pro tip: Skip the new Sweet Pea pasta. It’s solid but not as good as others. Also please bring back the Rhubarb Crostini or send me the recipe :).
Absolutely gorgeous vibe and very friendly service. Great appetizer and pasta. We had a great time here! The only thing is that we wish the tiramisu is more traditional style (meaning more coffee/cocoa flavor and less sweet). Pasta mista is great, but the tomato sauces it a bit bitter tasting. But overall we liked it!
Great Italian restaurant located in the West Loop - Monteverde by Chef Sarah Grueneberg (former Top Chef contestant) focuses on delicate handmade Italian pastas and large hearty shareable mains. Some dishes signatures include the wagyu beef skewers and the massive ragu napoletana (huge pork neck, sausage and gremolata). Also be sure to save room for dessert such as the delicious lemon ice cake! Reservations are notoriously hard to come by and will take a fair amount of persistence to book, but Monteverde is easily one of the best Italian restaurants in Chicago.
Worth every bit of the reservation struggle. I went during Restaurant Week and loved being able to sample a little bit of everything. The shrimp and potatoes were hands down my favorite; so flavorful and perfectly done. The meatball was unbelievably tender, and the house made gnocchetti was outstanding. You can even watch them making the pasta, which makes the whole experience feel extra special. The tiramisu was simply amazing. Add in attentive, friendly service and it was a great experience all around. I’d absolutely come back.
