We were passing through and decided to stop by the zoo. I had an incredible experience walking through this large zoo and seeing such wonderful animals. Most of the animals have spacious enclosures with everything they need. For the first time in my life, I fed a giraffe and saw them up close.
The park is large, and it took us more than four hours to see everything. I would also like to mention how convenient the park is for visitors there are air conditioned indoor areas, which was very helpful in the heat, as well as benches for resting and drinking fountains everywhere.
The staff was friendly and welcoming. If I am ever in Wichita again, I will definitely visit the zoo again.
This place is simply amazing. My wife and I had so much fun visiting the nature center and roaming the many acres of trails. While visiting the area and we were looking for something to do and we happily stumbled across this fantastic gem. The nature center has a lot of fun animals to observe and very informational. They have large glass windows overlooking many feeders where lots of wildlife come and dine. Staff told me they just set up webcams so I can't wait to check that out. The trails are easily navigable and fairly well maintained. You can't beat the cost of entry at only $3. If I was local to the area I would definitely be a member. We just recently got into birding and couldn't believe the amazing assortment we spotted and heard. We also saw a 5 + foot rat snake on one of the paths (Not poisonous or harmful). We let it go about it's business. Can't say enough good things. Do yourself of favor and visit Good for all ages.
The zoo was fun! We had some issues with activity tickets, but staff refunded us with no hassle, which I really appreciated. The zoo app was a huge help for maps, show times, and planning our day — totally recommend downloading it before you go. Overall a great visit!
All the animals were so active, healthy, and beautiful! The grounds & restrooms were clean, and well kept. It was a rainy day and although we got rained on a time or two, there was plenty of coverage to run under and watch an animal while we waited. We loved visiting here!
Love going to the zoo as a member I enjoy it on my weekends with my family. The rainforest is open hurray!! And we can feed the fish now after the long awaiting period. Improvement would be placing a sign outside the zoo to tell people what changes have been made so that you can visit them first if you haven’t seen them in awhile. All in all great zoo!
Had a wonderful Saturday exploring the Sedgwick County Zoo with two friends! We booked our tickets online, which I highly recommend—it was simple and saved us $25 total ($5 per ticket) compared to the gate price.
The zoo itself is beautiful and was decorated with these incredible, giant animal lanterns from some kind of special event. The snow leopard and butterfly displays we saw were a magical touch and made the walkways even more fun.
We spent most of our day exploring the Africa, South America, and Australia sections, and the habitats are truly world-class.
A few tips for your visit:
Arrive Early! The zoo is HUGE. We weren't able to see the North America section because we ran out of time. To cover everything without rushing, I'd say the best time to get there is between 10 and 11 AM.
Check for Closures: We were disappointed to find the Cessna Penguin Cove was closed for maintenance. It’s probably a good idea to check their website before you go.
Animal Naps are Real: It was a sunny day, so the lion and tiger were snoozing in the shade, and we couldn't find the red panda. It happens, but if you want to see them active, an earlier or cooler day might be better!
Even with the few things we missed, it was an amazing day out. It’s a top-notch zoo and a fantastic value.
An amazing place to spend with family. Whenever we visit Wichita, my husband and I take our son to learn about the animals. The staff is very attentive. My husband lost his wallet, and we returned to look for it, when the Zoo was already closed. Fortunately, we found Stephanie and she was very kind to us. She contacted Security and that same night we were able to return home, which is almost 3 hours from Wichita. We thank you for bringing a piece of the world's fauna near us.
Pretty decent zoo. Its a tad pricey and they train is a total ripoff. You cant even see animals on it since it goes around edge of park. We enjoyed the zoo but it definitely has higher ratings than the actual experience.
