Today we drove from middle Tennessee in order to tour and explore Helen Keller’s home. My daughter is in 4th grade and did a project and presentation about her, therefore why not visit what you read about. The drive was quite easy with mainly highways and main roads but becareful with the speed limits changing from 45 to 65 many times. Our GPS took us to the back of the house to park instead of the front and I would recommend going into the front to park if there are spots. When you come in the back way there really is no signage and best if you are just going for the show/play. There are restrooms to use in this area also. Once we got to the main house we purchased the tickets and waited a few minutes and our tour started. The tour guide we had was amazing as she really included my daughter asking questions because we talked about her presentation on Helen. The tour guide had a huge knowledge of Helen and her family. We started outside the house with Helen’s room, kitchen, ice house, fountain, gifts from the nation’s she visited and Lion’s Club gifts. Next we doored inside the house seeing the area they ate, bedrooms, rooms under the stairs and the museum room which is the best spot to end and spend some good time. All of the rooms have bars and you are not allowed to enter the space but then all the items are original or of that time period and have been donated. Overall I felt the tour and exploration of the grounds was amazing and worth it. We will be back for the play.

Came on a Saturday without any pre bought tickets or reservations. Very interesting history and great to see in person. The parking was free and even though the lot was small there were plenty of spaces available. The tour guide was apologetic for the wait and said she was the only one there that day but I still waited under 10 minutes. The tour goes over the history of the house and Hellen Kellers entire life. She started with when she was born and went all the way to after her death. The guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. While the house is fairly small, it is full of original photos, furniture, paintings, and hand written notes by Helen. It took about 30 minutes to hear the whole tour and it was pretty interesting. I liked all the original decor from the house and the history told by the guide. The grounds exhibits are mostly Lions Club installations but they’re still nice and peaceful.

What a wonderful tour. Went on 1/10/26 and there was nobody there, very easy to park and get inside. The grounds were nicely kept and lots of things to see. The tour is personalized and Christopher walked us around the house explaining what is displayed and providing a ton of information about Hellen Keller and her family and life. Christopher knew so much it was impressive, he was friendly and interactive. We purchased items from the gift shop, nothing was overpriced, everything was modestly priced which is refreshing. Great tour highly recommend it.

This had a lot more to see than I anticipated. The property is large with 1 main house and a few outlying facilities to look at. The main hose had a museum room with lots of photos and information. Then their were 3 rooms downstairs and bedrooms upstairs to view.

When visiting Tuscumbia this is definitely a must-see. Ivy Green is loaded with history of Helen Keller who defied all odds and went on to fulfill a life of service to the blind and deaf in spite of her own obstacles. What an inspiring story that will leave you in awe!

The movie The Miracle Worker came out a year before I was born, and I honestly can’t remember the first time I saw it — just that I was young, and it stuck. It’s one of those films I’ll always stop and watch, no matter what part it’s on. Some stories just move in and never leave. And this spot right here? This is where water became more than a sensation — it became a word. A connection. Seeing it in person hits different. It’s simple. Ordinary. And somehow one of the most powerful places in American history.
