Visitor notes
Such a great place for locals to visit for free every Second-Sunday. Sure, there's no internationally-renowned big-name works (far as I saw), but that doesn't mean the art isn't very good. Also, the day we visited most recently, part of the SB Symphony were there playing some nice background music. Go!
I recently visited the Santa Barbara Museum of Art, and it was really nice! I had a good experience, and I was excited to recognize a Japanese ukiyo-e painting that I studied in Art History.
Small but full of art! It’s a tiny place, but packed with great pieces. I was so happy to spot a few works by Monet! The building itself is beautiful, and the layout is easy to follow. Very clean, and the staff were all really nice. But i wish they had a gift shop though!
A fabulous exhibition! A great variety of work and artists. So interesting and cleverly brought together. The museum is a lovely environment - well worth the visit. It's on a couple of floors. A wonderful way to spend an afternoon.
Lovely museum! Lots of paintings, sculptures, installations. Great collection of late 19 and early 20th century European art. I will be back for sure!
Smaller museum and gallery but perfect size so you don't get museum fatigue. The permanant galleries are always great to look at after you finish touring their current exhibition. Staff and curators always choose interesting themes and topics and guides are extremely knowledgable and passionate. I also visited the van gogh exhibit which was the most packed i have ever seen place. Free for students as well as long as you bring your student ID with you!
The exhibit titled "The Impressionist" Revolution: Matisse to Monet was excellent. The exhibit included paintings by Degas, Morisot, Van Gogh, Gauguin,Laughing, Mondrian, Pissarro, Bonnard, and many more.
