Visitor notes
This is a great park, nice paved path for walking or biking…lots of birds to listen to and it connects to other forest preserves — Kishwaukee River FP . I love the pine trees and columbines ❤️❤️💜
Amazing Forest Preserve and a great place to hike! The trails are well-marked and maintained. The blue trail is paved, but the green, orange, and red trails are dirt or grass. If you prefer a more moderate hike on a dirt trail, then I recommend the red trail. It follows along the Kishwaukee River and provides great views. The red trail also leads to the Espencheid Forest Preserve if you follow the trail under the overpass. There's plenty of parking and the restroom facilities were very clean.
Blackhawk Springs is a real treasure of Winnebago County. Nestled along the Kishwaukee River, it has paved trails and unpaved paths that go through woods and prairie. The views are great. It's one of my favorite spots for a relaxing weekend afternoon.
Had a great hike with Siri at Blackhawk Springs today. Took the trail mile in and then turned back to head a 2 miles down the kishwaukee river. Great weather and lots of birds chirping all morning.
Nice little loop in the woods, along a prairie, and down some stairs to the water. So glad there was an outhouse, and bonus, it is super clean. Nice little stroll.
This is a fantastic spot for running or hiking. Started off on the paved bridge and cut right for the back trail loop, reconnecting to the main path for another mile, hit the end, and went back the way I came. Nice 5.55 mile jaunt. All Trails app has the preserves mapped out pretty accurately.
Went here with my 2 year old son, and we had a blast! From throwing rocks into the water to racing on the bridge, there wasn't a moment where either of didn't have a smile on our face! 5/5 recommend.
