Beautiful Japanese inspired gardens. Long lush walkways with water, waterfalls, water fowl, and more. Lots of points to step off the path for pictures and benches all along as well to sit and enjoy. A flat option for strollers and those with walking issues are available, otherwise some rocks and light terrain to navigate. Volunteers walking around to assist, multiple restrooms all along. Says 45 to 60 minutes. Highly recommend, and be sure to buy some fish food for the koi ponds.

Visitor notes
We were visiting my niece and her family in Rockford and decided to visit the Anderson Japanese Gardens. We are so glad we did, beautiful and fun feeding the huge Koi, and turtles - highly recommend getting everyone their own bag of food when you are getting in ($1 a bag and everyone had fun). They were setting up for an evening music event (i think weekly in summer?) and we wished we could have stayed or come back for.
We had our wedding ceremony at Anderson Japanese Gardens, and our reception at Fresco, and it was everything we hoped for. The gardens are absolutely stunning and made the perfect backdrop for our special day. Every corner was beautiful. The staff at both Anderson Japanese Gardens and Fresco were incredibly kind, professional, and helpful throughout the entire day. They made everything run so smoothly and were always there whenever we needed anything, which helped make our wedding day stress-free. We couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful venue or a better team to celebrate such an important day. We highly recommend this venue to any couple looking for a breathtaking location with amazing service!
These Japanese gardens are worth the trip. The grounds are amazingly well kept. The ponds water features and waterfalls are very relaxing. The trails to walk around this property are very nicely done. There are unique buildings on the property for yoga and meditation plan on spending at least an hour once you’re done with your exploring the gift shop and restaurant are a bonus. The food at the restaurant was unique and very tasty the deck attached to the restaurant, overlook the gardens and is a very relaxing place to have a bite to eat.
A bit small for the price, but I still felt I got my money's worth because it is a very lovely set of gardens. Pretty flowers and serene waterfalls, all set along & around a series of very nice streams and ponds make this entire garden a wonderfully enjoyable and beautiful way to spend about 1 hour. That said, even at a very casual pace, squeezing a full hour out of this place was pushing it, so given the cost of entry, I'd rate it at 4 stars rather than the full 5 I would give it if it were free. Worth visiting imo, but definitely not a must visit, especially if you prefer to seek out free alternatives in less curated settings.
Beautiful gardens makes you forget you're in the city. Tranquil waterfalls, beautiful trees and flowers. Lots of places to sit and enjoy the view. Get the koi food when you buy your tickets and fees them.
This is my 2nd time visiting the Anderson Gardens and its always a great place to go. There is so much to do when you think you've been in one area before you're pleasantly surprised. The pond is gorgeous and there are so many photo ops. This is a must-go whenever in the Rockford area.
What a beautiful place! I decided to spend my birthday (late September) soaking up the tranquility and serenity. This was the perfect place to roam around and enjoy all the beauty. It was very peaceful, and I love that I could take my time around the gardens, and take photos at my own pace. It was so peaceful that I felt like I was the only one there, even though it was a quite busy day. They had a wonderful area where you could eat inside also. I highly recommend adding that to your experience. They have bathrooms inside the building, as well as outside. The property is cared for and well maintained. I'd love to come back again when it isn't so hot! My phone kept giving me warning errors because of the heat, and I couldnt access my camera during those times... that is how hot it was. The heat allowed me to sit in the shade, journal, sip water and enjoy the area with zero distractions 🙂 If you love photography, and serene settings, mixed with a brilliant layout and landscaping, this is the place. Great for all ages! The colors were just starting to change. I imagine it's close to peak by now, if it hasn't peaked already. Can't wait to return. There is a lot that I didn't get to see!
