We learned many things. It was awesome that it was located in the old foundry. We asked a question that ALMOST stumped them but they were AWESOME and got us an answer!!! It's nice that it's by the river too. And they helped direct us to another area when we asked that we enjoyed and will go back to when we have more time.

A gem, a must see! The area is simply beautiful with much to see and to experience! A well curated history museum with an educational mission that’s organized and arranged chronologically. The exhibits are historically accurate, and cultivated a deeper understanding of social and economic struggles and successes. We arrived late into the area and thought we’d have to miss out but discovered that had a special event that evening. “Wine Down Wednesday” entry, free beverage of choice, w bar, free appetizers, and a wonderful group of musicians completing the thoughtful aesthetics and the overall sensory experience. The museum also provides a complementary Audi tour which I highly recommend to add more depth and richness to exhibits. The event was akin to a Charity Event where I would have expected to pay for to attend. This after hours, small group experience was the same cost as their regular admission and parking was free. I highly recommend you to 1) add this museum to your “must see” list 2)follow them on social media and look for future events 3) If a scavenger hunt is offered, do it, if you don’t want the opportunity to win the gift bag, you will learn a some fun facts 4) check nearby concert calendar to plan for parking 5) If I was local I would explore their membership options. They offer benefits including free admission, discounts on events, and more. I would attend every event! Great job! What a wonderful, memorable and educational experience!
It's paid parking, but they give you a sticker for 3 free hours once inside. Tickets are $19 for adults. Tons of info inside. Very very nice place.
The museum did a fantastic job of explaining a complex political situation that turned into a pivotal time in US history. The process was well thought out and was executed well in a timeline viewpoint. I went early on Memorial Day and it wasn’t crowded but still had plenty of patrons. I’d recommend the muzzle loader demonstration if it is available that day. In total I spent about 2 1/2 hours at the museum which is at your own pace. I forgot to bring headphones to do the self guided tour on your phone but probably should recommend that you bring them as an added bonus.
After merging with the Museum of the Confederacy I thought there would be more artifacts on display. Kinda disappointed in the presentation. They tell you to start upstairs but, not much to see on the second floor, all the main artifacts are on the main floor. Figured it would take a couple hours to go through, took 30 minutes. It would be nice if they told more about the building itself and its history. I can say, been there, done that.
There is so much history packed into this great old building. There are two stories, with elevators, and either floors have incredible displays. They have incorporated some testimonials as well as some short films throughout the museum. It's a lot of reading so young children may have a hard time staying engaged.
This museum is like someone took apart a book and glued it to the walls (tons of text). And there are inaccuracies in the exhibits/graphics which just really drives me crazy. Thankfully it was free with NARM. Postcards were a little on the pricey side at $1.50 but at least they had them for sale. The historic building left exposed is pretty cool though!
Went as a chaperone on my daughters field trip and enjoyed all the exhibits and the activities they did for the children. It was rainy and they found other activities inside so we didn't have to be out walking in the rain. All the kids seemed to enjoy it, and it was very informative. I've lived in the area my whole 40 years and this was my first time going, had I known how interesting it was I would have come sooner! Thanks for having us!
