What a gem of a museum! My wife & I are traveling musicians in a van and stop at interesting spots when we can. As we were in Texas we wanted to pay a visit here to see the Janis Joplin exhibit. We were blown away over all the historic and prominent people the region has fostered! The museum is very well laid out. We loved all of it but really enjoyed the upper floor in the entertainment & sports exhibits. If you’re in the area make a plan to visit, you’ll be glad. Excellent gift shop as well. They have a great selection of shirts & books…I can’t resist buying a book! Parking is in the back, as is the entrance.

Visited museum for a private art showing that my niece had a piece displayed. Staff was very polite and museum was full of Beaumont history.

Very interesting and complete history of the area including geological history and the people and oil industry development there. The second floor has sports, entertainment and political people that most will recognize. Janis Joplin, Johnny Winter , and Dallas Cowboy coach Jimmy Johnson for example. I was a little disappointed that the musical giant Janis Joplin wasn’t larger. Still I enjoyed the experience and would recommend it.

If you come to Galveston you need to stop at the museum of the Gulf Coast. It is located in a very unassuming building that used to be a bank. The very reasonable entrance fee of $8 let's you explore all the areas. The first floor covers pretty much the history of the area. But when you come to the second floor we were amazed to see all the celebrities that came from this are or had ties to it. Each person has a separate display that tells you about them. There are so many... Janis Joplin, the Winter brothers, Jimmy Johnson, Mark Henry, Texas Ritter, Clay Walker, Becky Barksdale.... I could go on and on. There are touch screen monitors that let's you select each one and tells you about them. We spent over 2 hours browsing and loved it. The folks running this place are super nice and helpful.

What an amazing informative museum this is. We decided to visit because of Janis Joplin but to our surprise it turned out to be so much more than just the Music Hall of Fame. It has cultural, historical, natural history and art exhibits with amazing information and artifacts. We enjoyed the huge indoor mural and the experimental race car.

No wait for us. We were able to get right in. I went specifically for the Janis Joplin exhibit but was pleasantly surprised by the other exhibits as well. We were able to take our time and learned quite a bit. I would definitely recommend making this a stop to get a better understanding of the area and its history.

Sebastian made the experience fun, while teaching us some fascinating things. Then Tom also shared cool stories in regard to athletes, rock stars, and actors from the area. A friendly atmosphere and lots of great artifacts.
