Plenty of different arts on displays. Painting, pottery, jewelry. Elevators available. Handicapped accessible. Gifts shops. Lil bakery. Outdoor seating, indoor seating if you get tired. Quiet. Lots to look at. Show room. Small theater.

visited the Heard Museum in Phoenix, and it was such a wonderful surprise — highly recommend it. The museum showcases Native American art and culture, including pottery, turquoise jewelry, paintings, and their history. But it’s not just about the exhibits — the entire space is beautifully designed. The architecture, the courtyard, the materials, the color palette, and the flow of the spaces all feel incredibly thoughtful and refined. It’s the kind of place where you just feel calm and nourished being there. You can sit in the courtyard, enjoy a coffee, or take your time browsing the bookstore and gift shop. I especially loved the jewelry and the handmade rugs. They are not typical souvenirs — they are truly well-designed, high-quality pieces with a strong sense of culture and aesthetics. One of the highlights for me was the docent — an older gentleman who spent his entire career teaching English at a Native American high school. After retiring, he now gives tours here. His storytelling was so vivid and heartfelt, it really brought everything to life. This is a place where you can easily spend half a day. It’s not just about seeing things, but about experiencing beauty and gaining a deeper understanding of Native American culture. If you’re in Phoenix, I would definitely put this on your must-visit list.

This is a fabulous place to learn about Native American art and culture. The Heard Museum presents outstanding exhibits on contemporary Native American art along with an outstanding collection of Native American art from past eras. The Museum Cafe offers excellent food and beverage informed by Native American traditional food. We enjoyed prickly pear lemonade along with posole (for my husband) and the turkey sandwich with a green salad served with a prickly pear dressing (for me). We are in the beautiful outside courtyard. The Museum Store has an impressive collection of Native American art for sale. If you're interested in acquiring authentic art from tribes throughout the United States and especially from Southwestern tribes, this is the place! I focused on jewelry and rugs, but you will also find ceramics, dolls and textiles, too The Heard Museum is not to be missed when visiting Phoenix! If you're on a budget, they have a "pay what you wish" program on Wednesdays.

What an amazing place — this museum honestly blew me away! 💛 It’s modern, spacious, full of light and air — every corner feels alive. The exhibits are interactive and beautifully put together, and there was even a whole section about the stars — unexpectedly inspiring and so well done. We joined a guided tour that was supposed to be 45 minutes — but it went closer to 55, and it still felt like five minutes. The guide was incredible — so passionate and easy to listen to, sharing fascinating stories about Native American history and art. That hour just flew by. They also have a Family Room — a really lovely space for kids to explore and play while learning. I was there without my children this time, but I know they’d absolutely love it. It’s one of those places that’s interesting for both adults and kids — there’s something for everyone. I came around 2 p.m., and the museum closes at 4 — big mistake, two hours weren’t nearly enough. I didn’t get to see a couple of galleries, and I barely had time to peek into the gift shop — which, by the way, is fantastic. So many handmade things — pottery, jewelry, paintings — all authentic, unique, and full of soul. I could’ve easily spent another hour just there. There’s also a cozy café and a small bookstore — perfect if you want to sit for a bit and soak in the atmosphere. Next time I’m in Phoenix, I’m definitely coming back — and I’ll make sure to spend the whole day here. Such a beautiful, thoughtful, and inspiring place. 🌿

The Heard museum is such a high quality place to really enjoy Native American art! But, it goes far beyond art appreciation because they do a wonderful job in helping visitors to appreciate native American culture in the past as well as today. In the front lawn area, they have the American Indian Veterans National Memorial, the have provided an emotional installation about the Indian schools and many other important aspects. Importantly, their museum guides are phenomenal about the items included in the museum. If you are a visitor to the Phoenix area - this is a MUST SEE! If you appreciate Native American culture -- THIS IS A MUST SEE!

Marvelous museum, so glad we were able to go while I was in Arizona. Many interesting artifacts, artwork, exhibits from Native American artists showcased in several galleries. There are tours you can take with docents. We went through the museum on our own. Highly recommend a visit if you are in the state of AZ.

Fantastic and incredible. Probably second only to Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian in terms of American Indian museums of culture, history and art, and certainly No. 1 in terms of Southwestern US Indians. The katsina collection is incredible; many of the arts, such as weaving, pottery and silversmithing, have modern items as well as historical ones, showing ongoing creative artistic fusion. The "gift shop" — far more than a gift shop — continues this. And, on the culture, history and sociology side, the standing exhibit on the American Indian boarding school experience is not to be missed.

The Heard Museum is well curated and genuinely interesting, offering deep insight into Native American history, art, and culture through thoughtful exhibits. The ticket price of $26 feels a bit expensive, especially when Phoenix has many free or cheaper cultural options, but the quality here is solid. A big plus is the outdoor area - calm, shaded, and perfect for sitting, reading, or enjoying a small snack between galleries. Not a must-see for everyone, but a worthwhile visit if you want a richer, slower museum experience.
