Visitor notes
LOVED the Novato Ayawaska delicious impressively-gorgeous cuisine, expansive classic Novato rolling hills view, perfect service thanks to personable Ava, fun-personality culturally-influenced decor, lovely airy atmosphere. I felt like I was on vacation in a special international locale, getting exclusive gracious VIP treatment. I LOVED Ava’s recommended grilled octopus, which was AMAZING (flavor, presentation, innovation); I have Hawaiian ancestry, taken cooking classes, and eaten at several Michelin-starred restaurants. I usually shy away from eating intelligent creatures, but glad I made an exception while at Ayawaska. My two grad-school friends here for our UCSF reunion had a magnificently beautiful steak fresh colorful salad and perfect-looking empanadas (i took empanada class in Buenos Aires); they were raving about old times vs paying attn to their food, so idk what they thought. New-looking, modern, clean, style with appealing flair. Was not busy on a Wednesday for lunch. Plenty of parking. Hidden away in a residential neighborhood. Ava said weekends are much busier, especially on outside view decks. (Also said squid/calamari was second choice. Some other seafood, maybe shrimp, was third.) I live in Mill Valley; Ayawaska would be a top hit, here. It’s a schlep for me, but I plan to return (probably with a Costco shopping pit stop added)! Friendly people answer the phone. Definitely a large full bar available. Could be quite lively when crowded. I thought the prices were competitive and reasonable (most good food costs a lot, nowadays—even at the grocery stores).
The Piscos are enough to forget about Margaritas from now to never. The Branzino is a perfect fish dish, according to mi amiga. I tripped out on the Risotto with Filet Mignon! Mmmm! The scallop appetizer was topped with cheese and greens.
On our travels we stopped for lunch in honor of Peru's Idependence day. This restaurant was on its own little hill nicely located to look out onto hills sides and green scenic landscapes. Service was welcoming even though I was insecure of stepping in with traveling comfy clothes. I figured if there was a dress code we'd order To Go. The dishes had good portions and tasted delicious. We were so hungry we even got desserts and they were equally delicious. Overall great experience. My only wish would have been to listen to peruvian music too. They had soft rock in the back ground. Also where we sat by the window table 21 that area attracted flys and before the appetizers arrived my teen boys were knocking them out one by one. Hey it kept them busy and we had unconventional fun time go figure.
Ayawaska was an outstanding experience from start to finish. The food was incredibly flavorful, fresh, and beautifully presented every dish we tried was packed with authentic taste and clearly made with care. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, creating the perfect setting whether you’re going out with family, friends, or for a date night.
This establishment exceeded my expectations. The stunning views from the hilltop, combined with the elegant decor and ambiance, created a truly memorable dining experience. The food was fresh and flavorful, with each dish showcasing the chef’s love and attention to detail. The generous serving sizes made it easy to share the delicious meals with my family. We had a fantastic time celebrating a birthday here, and I’m already looking forward to returning with my family in the near future.
Food was fantastic, service was fast and friendly, atmosphere was chic/elegant. Loved this place! We ordered all appetizers: beef medallions, salmon salad, quiche, scallops, calamari, ceviche, chicken empanadas and then for dessert had the churros and chocolate volcano. All the food was excellent! Highly recommend, will definitely go back!
It’s a little weird to kind of drive through a seemingly just a neighborhood, but I assure you, you are not lost and it is so worth it! The ambience is fantastic, not too loud but lively. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable and the drink menu is..overwhelming..but amazing. I got the Punisher not realizing it was served in a skull with dry ice but it was delicious drinking from the skulls of my vanquished foes!! The food was absolutely outstanding prefect sized portions. Not to big that I was uncomfortable but not so small that I didn’t feel like I ate anything and everything was absolutely perfect. So delicious!
