The Basilica of St. Patrick's Old Cathedral

The place is very accessible to the subway, nice neighborhood, solemn place to pray and meditate. The interior is very quiet and beautiful and you can see the history behind the structure. The area is also very nice to shop with variety of stores and restaurants .

I didn't even realize that there was an "Old" St Patrick's Cathedral but it makes sense after taking the catacombs tour. What a beautiful church. I can only imagine how grand it was before the 19th century fire. It makes me proud to be Catholic and a witness to the brave men and women whose perseverance established the church in New York City.

Big shout out to our guide - Tommy - for providing an incredibly informative and engaging talk about the church, its history, and the goings-on in the neighborhod back in the day. 5 out 5 stars to Tommy. And 5 out of 5 stars also to the cemetery sheep and the shepard who looks after them - absolutely adorable. In terms of the catacombs, for anyone who has visited catacombs in Europe or at the Green Wood Cemetery, this is a bit of a letdown. Even the "candlelight" description is a bit off - you carry LED lights etc. I have no regrets doing this tour but I would have to give the catacomb/crypt portion of it perhaps 2-3 stars max.

This place feels older than the city around it. I went in for the church itself and ended up doing the catacombs tour, which helped connect the plain exterior, the cemetery, and the history of the Catholic community in old New York. The inside is beautiful in a worn, lived-in way, with stained glass, older details, and a quieter feeling once the tour groups and sound checks settle down. Our guide was knowledgeable and kept the history practical, pointing out the crypt areas, the old fire and rebuilding, and even the connection to The Godfather baptism scene without making it feel like a movie-location stop. The catacombs are interesting, though not as dramatic as the name might suggest, and the lights are more modern than candlelit. And the cemetery sheep were a small detail I did not expect, but they fit the place in a strange, memorable way. I noticed they offer services in English and Italian, which adds to the neighborhood feel. It is worth treating as more than a quick ☕ stop if you want time to look around and sit quietly.

The old St. Patrick's has service in English and also in Italian. That's why I am here now. The headquarters of the knights of Columbus is located at the church and also the catacumbs in both sizes of the main building, it is a very nice and old church.

Church is beautiful and the choir is angelical. Love everything about it except the homily. The Father rambles and rambles and rambles. His homilies are long and incoherent. He just doesn’t seem to transmit the holy power to the audience. Please, consider sending him to practice or swapping him for another priest. This church is well located and membership is increasing quickly. It has the potential to become a powerhouse again. Don’t let the father fumble the ball.

It was a very somber place. I went there to see were Francis Ford Coppola filmed the baptism scene in the Godfather. It was beautiful

Went to the catacombs tour had a blast, purchased a ticket for $35 online. I learned so much about history, the city, America and other subjects such as films associated with the church & about significant the men, women & families of our recent past!!
