Cafe Istanbul

The owner Chuck Perkins is a poet, business owner and the main host for many community events. The facility features a stage, full bar, main space can be transformed to feature a wooden dance floor, or set up for a theater style setting. There's an upstairs balcony area for additional space or limited seating. Tonight, Cafe Istanbul was transformed into a lecture format to welcome author, historian, and educator, Dr. Gerald Horne. The event was hosted through Nola Freedom Forum. I've seen the space, with a cool vibe become a space for a dance party experience, on another day the space welcomes attendees for featured band or musician. On a Sunday, a church group gathers and feeds the community. What Cafe Instanbul provides is a safe space for special events. Its being a bar is a compliment to the experience

Went to see a show there and the food was served by a local caterer. $15/plate, I bought a VIP Ticket for $20, a cocktail double for $20. Drinks were a little pricey but overall a great time.

I don't know about any food available here, so I can not speak to that. This space as an event venue is quite lovely. I came for an event where the author talked about his writings and his passions, and the whole experience was amazing. I look forward to coming back for future events.

New in town and wanted to enjoy some spoken word. I loved the atmosphere minus the insane amounts of marijuana everywhere. I had to leave it was SO strong. I enjoyed the host Chuck and I wish he was on stage a bit longer. He has a pleasant energy and is very likeable and friendly. This seems like a nice place for poets or artist but a little too casual for my liking. It was clear that a handful of people were on drugs or homeless which made me a bit uncomfortable. The bartender wasn’t particularly friendly nor the woman at the door. I’m sure if you’re young or into the drug/hipster scene this is a perfect spot but I was hoping for something a bit more classy and a more refined set of talent. Not great but not bad.

The timings of the shows were not properly organized. This is the second time where I've seen a performer rushing off of the stage, cutting their show short for the next set of people who were also scheduled to perform around the same time. I think that too many performers are constantly getting booked in such a small amount of time. It's kind of hard to fully enjoy a show like that.

Nice little indoor venue for live music with a bar at the side, would recommended
