Just recently discovered this place from a post somewhere - shocked I’d never heard of it before - I’ve done quite a bit of exploring across our entire state. It was such a welcome surprise. I didn’t make the chapel tour, but walked the grounds for a few hours. So peaceful, serene and grounding. Grounds were beautiful, views of the river, the labyrinth, sculptures, gardens. I tried to stay out of the monks way as a traipsed through their retreat, one did approach me (might not have been a monk), we had a brief but informative conversation in the garden. It was a very meaningful experience- not religious - but it’s inspirational to see others with that level of faith and conviction. The sanctuary they’ve created is kinda magical. Well worth the drive. Can’t remember what road I took in to Merlin - maybe Sawmill - be prepared for a bumpy ride. It was well worth the drive.

If you are looking for quiet and a place to slow down and reflect, Mepkin Abbey is a perfect choice. I’ve gone both for day trips in spring & fall as well as a 3 day private retreat at the retreat center. All of my experiences offered beauty, rest, solitude, silence, connection with God, and a reset for my soul. Day trip: Sit on benches by the river (see dolphins), listen to the birds chirping, feel the breeze, walk the grounds through history and large oak trees, enjoy the sculptures. The gift shop is full of delights as well. Free. Private Retreat: A simple room with a bed, desk, chair & private bathroom with shower is provided. You have access to areas restricted from day trippers. There is a library and chapel in the heart of the retreat center, more grounds to explore, hammocks to enjoy, and you can join the community of monks for their services most mornings & evenings as well. Suggested donation. Note: I did not experience the labyrinth, as I have no desire to do so due to personal convictions. Otherwise, the grounds are beautiful and overall quiet, apart from the days of mowing of grass.

This monastery is an absolute must-visit if you find yourself anywhere near the area. The entire property is breathtaking, offering a rare sense of peace and tranquility. The landscaping is meticulously maintained and truly beautiful, with a variety of vibrant flora that changes with the seasons. Throughout the grounds, you'll discover tucked-away sitting areas perfect for quiet reflection or simply soaking in the surroundings. For those who enjoy being active, the well-marked walking trails wind through the natural landscape, providing a wonderful way to experience the serenity of the estate. Whether you are looking for a spiritual retreat or just a stunning place to enjoy nature, this location is a hidden gem. Hands down A++++

My fiance and I decided to come for a visit and take the 11:30 tour. Entry to the gardens is free and the tour is only $5 per person. The tour gives you the history of the plantation and area and also the church of the Abbey. We got to experience a 10 minute service which was a very unique experience. The grounds are beautiful and well kept and it was very peaceful. They had a reconciliation garden that was very well done that I believe is newer. The gift shop also had a lot of really cool things and when we got there we found out they were doing a plant sale of different vegetables and trees. We would definitely visit again!

Did my first retreat at Mepkin this weekend. I was a little hesitant as I am not religious in any way but was drawn to the guided retreat about dreams. I felt incredibly welcomed. The retreat center was beautiful. The land magical. I found such peace; connection; stillness and inner clarity. Looking forward to returning for a personal retreat in the future. Thank you for all who have made this beautiful Abbey a place for all who is looking for some peace
