I really enjoyed my hiking visit to LLELA and will definitely return. The terrain is pretty easy and there are lots of things to look at. Lots of birds around, a couple of small snakes and so many flowers. There were multiple areas to park and start hiking. There were port-a-potties at every parking lot.

LLELA is a great place to get a quiet couple hours to yourself and the birds. It feels so far from the city, and it's home to so much colorful wildlife you would never expect to find in an urban Texas setting. For only $5 per vehicle, which also covers attending many of their events, it's an absolute treasure to have so close to home.
We were lucky to be able to tour the historic cabin on our first visit here. The volunteers were so welcoming and informative. We learned all about the history and life of the cabin and its original settlers. Check out the website for all sorts of events. The trails were wide and peaceful. It’s nice to have this vast green area so close. Amazing views and plenty of sitting areas to rest.
One of my favorite places to hike in the area. I’m happy to pay $5 per day or buy an annual pass to protect these trails and the animals that live here. I’ve seen countless deer, raccoons, possums, bobcats, coyotes, bald eagles, and so much more. The staff that work there are so kind. The trails are very well maintained. You can do short hikes or you can do multiple trails and get some mileage. I highly recommend the bittern marsh trail, it’s wonderful!
What a wonderful place! Great little trails, birds and wildflowers. The Trinity River runs through it and there are beautiful spots to picnic. $5 per vehicle to get in, lots of wonderfully clean portable toilets at each hiking trailhead. The lovely lady in the front gate was very helpful and pleasant. Will definitely be back when we're in the area.
I really love Marsh Trail. It’s even more beautiful when it’s raining. There were so many birds, and I loved listening to their chirping. The park is so peaceful and quiet. Unfortunately, we couldn’t get in at first because we couldn’t find our card, and they said they couldn’t help since they only take card payments. We only had cash and tap payment, but luckily we found a card later and were able to get in after paying. So yeah, don’t forget to bring your card. They won’t let you in without it! The entry fee was $5.
Beautiful river and beautiful park about 30mi away from Dallas, LLELA (Lewisville Lake Environmental Learning Area) is a wonderful place to fish. It’s below the Lake Lewisville dam on the Elm Fork of the Trinity River and is target rich for carp, buffalo, bass and panfish galore. Glorious to have a near wilderness area this pretty so close to urban home.
Great place for a nature hike, walk or run (or even just sitting and enjoying nature). Family friendly, although some of the trails aren’t great for strollers. Cottonwood trail is a good one for stroller. Cicada trail is a personal favorite, short but lots of signs with nature knowledge and fully shaded. There are maps available on entry that are pretty clearly marked with all the routes. Bathrooms are all porta potties but at least they are available at all the parking lots. Visitor center is only opened on weekends (staffed by volunteers) but weekdays are nice for enjoying the trails in peace!😊
