Texas Humane Heroes

I had a deeply heartbreaking experience here, and I’m sharing it in hopes that no one else has to go through this. On March 28th, I saw one of the “C” puppies and immediately formed a connection with him. I was told at the time he wasn’t available and was instructed to take a picture of him and the kennel card, then watch the website—when his picture appeared, that meant he was available. However, the kennel card only listed three names, even though there were at least eight puppies in the kennel, which was confusing from the start. Last Saturday, I saw those three names listed on the website and immediately drove out to the shelter (which is not close). I asked for him and explained that I had been told if his name was on the website, that meant he was available. I was then told the puppies in that kennel were not available (and therefore none of those were his name), and that three others from it had been pulled for the puppy pad because they were neutering in batches. I was told he would for sure be on the website by Wednesday and to keep checking. I called Wednesday and was told the same thing—if his picture wasn’t there, he wasn’t available. By Thursday, there was still no picture. Only the name “Chip” remained on the website, which was one of the names listed when I came in Saturday. New puppies had been added, but still no picture of the one I had been waiting and hoping for. I watched the name “chip” with no picture be pulled from the website. Then I found out the truth through their Facebook—The puppy I wanted had gotten adopted. His name was Chip. That means he WAS available when I drove out there and asked for him, and I was denied and turned away. They lied straight to my face. His picture was never added to the website like I was told it would be. I cannot fully explain how upsetting that realization was. I did everything I was told—I drove the distance, I called, I checked constantly—and still missed the opportunity because of inconsistent communication and a disorganized system. I’m glad he found his forever home, but my heart is shattered. I am in shock and disbelief that this happened. I hope this does not happen to another family. No one should go through this kind of experience while trying to adopt. I spent countless hours watching the website, Facebook—doing everything I could short of living at the shelter as I was told to do.

We recently adopted our cat from Texas Humane Heroes and it was a great experience. They were patient with us and answered all of our questions. They have an on site clinic. They microchip and fix their animals. The staff are clearly loving towards the animals. The facility was very nice. A great environment to meet the cats.

Took our 2 month old puppy here for his second round of shots and they were so quick and nice! Pricing is way more affordable than any private vet, hope it stays that way. Will be coming back again:)

The appointment process was simple, affordable, and easy to schedule, and the instructions before and after surgery were very clear and organized. Most importantly, they are doing incredible work helping reduce pet overpopulation and saving animals in our community. It’s obvious the team truly cares about both pets and pet owners. You can tell they truly love the animals and want to see them go to good homes. The facility was clean, organized, and full of happy cats and dogs. They made the whole process easy and stress-free, and we never felt rushed or pressured. Our new cat has been the perfect addition to our family — he’s happy, healthy, and full of personality. Might be my only place for adoptions now and will definitely come back to their affordable clinic! The shelter is so clean and refreshing. It's so cute to see cats roaming, an area where you can play with the cats as well. It's only limited to 5 per person at a time, but you're free to come in and out as you please. (We went in a few times as I went with my toddler, sorry!) We already had a tabby and unfortunately our 10 year old ginger tabby passed. While we did have him for 10 years and he was a cuddler, I realized orange tabbys might be too quirky for me personally 🫣 (Too each their own) Our 11 year old tabby is a super sweet, affectionate girl and we wanted another cat who can give her company and play with her as she still has a lot of energy and love to give that we might not be able to give on our own. (She was also a shelter cat who was known to be a mother figure with kittens and a staff favorite.) We knew we wanted a cat that was a little different, and honestly I would've been happy with a senior cat if we could find one that was the right fit! I looked straight on their website which is so well curated and detailed. I just wish there was more detail on the cats history and background if possible. We had our eyes set on 3 cats but wanted to meet them in person. We met all 3 cats in person, but one cat we could not keep our eyes off. We adopted Galadriel (pure white with yellow eyes and specs of green around the pupil). She was gorgeous and definitely a shy one. The staff were all friendly and helpful, they told us some background and what they knew, though she hadn't been there very long. They mentioned may be a project cat because of how skittish and shy she is. When I went to see her she did let me pet her which apparently was a good step forward for her (or maybe she just knew). Our last cat was found feral in a car engine and her behavior kind of reminded me of him, so we made the decision to adopt her then. The process after was quick (Maybe 15 minutes for the application, another 15 to pack and give more of the details) and they gave us a small pack of the super expensive hill science kitten food. Update to the staff and those who are curious: We've had galadriel for a week now, and her name is being kept for the LOTR reference, who ever comes up with the names, clever! The first few days were hard, we lost her under our tub for a bit (long story) we got her out and blocked off the access panel, and she was in our closet for 2 days or so, and the second day we had supervised interactions with our resident cat. Sweet little galadriel is a fan of other cats or at least mine! She warmed up so quick and immediately purred, I can't say the same for my resident cat, as she hissed and lightly patted, but she's not fighting her and just defending her space for now. We hope in the next few months they'll be regular cuddlers soon. Galadriel is slowly warming up to people, she tolerants being held very well, loves wet cat food, and all the pets. She's still a little skittish and shy, she's an excellent climber and hider, but she's learning from our older cat and starting to come to us for regular pets. She is absolutely adorable and makes the cutest sounds. We love our 2 wallflower cats ❤️ I am not only happy with my experience, but grateful for the knowledge and information from the staff. We are so happy to have Galadriel! Keep doing what you do, you guys are making a great place for folks to find their forever home!

I took our male dog, 1 year old to get neutered. Easy drop off procedure at 9am and i was very surprised that he was ready by noon, which was 3-4 hours earlier than expected. He didn't need any medication until the next day and his stitches look good. We bought him a recovery onesie which was much better than the cone. I would recommend Texas Human Heroes to anyone and suggest to donate if you can. Thank you for taking care of my dog with good care.

Gave one star because I cant give zero. I've adopted two cats here. With the first, there was never any interview and no coupons helping me save money on bills. I wasnt told about a 14 day policy protecting you if your pet is showing signs of sickness, so all of my cats got sick and I payed hundreds in vet bills. During the second visit two years later, I came because it was the closest shelter near me with kittens. There was an interview with kittens available, but the documents were left behind. They said they never found it but could email me the records a second time( there never was a first email). Once I get the email, I see theres nothing attached. No one is responding text or email. Long story short, no one answers the phone and dont expect any emails either. If you want a cat there just make sure you get your coupons and the records and keep everything accounted for.If you have any questions don't bother just show up and do what you gotta do. They won't help you the moment you leave.
