Before I tell you our story, let me preface by saying: Not everyone is equipped to have a shelter dog, if you don't have the time, compassion, and money, you should probably look into other options. Your dog is a dog 1st and a companion 2nd. KNOW YOUR BREEDS AND WHAT THEY DO!! Saucey was at the very shelter your looking at now, along with 300 other dogs at critical capacity. Me and my brother moved here from out of state, and were looking at get another dog, we already had a Australian Shepherd. I had been begging my brother for months to come with me and get a dog, so i finally told him. Come with me or I'm getting whatever dog I want. So we pulled up to the shelter on a hot Saturday in August. Their were so many dogs there, but the kennels were clean the buildings were clean and the workers friendly. We looked around a little bit and found a beautiful Collie cattle dog around 9 months old, she was fun, playful and energetic, but we didnt feel that spark, and knowing she was so young we knew shed get adopted fairly quick. I had mentioned to one of the Volunteers in passing that we were good with troubled dogs. By no means were we professional dog trainers, but we had grown up in a house with Aussies, which if anyone knows are a very misunderstood, always dropped in a shelter type of breed. But at the mentioned of troubled the worker grew really excited telling us about this dog that was in the quarantined zone for puking( to this day he drinks water too fast and will throw up if I don't limit his water). So me and my brother very skeptically said we'd like to meet him. At this point we were there all day and the shelter was closing in 20 minutes. They said theyd make an exception for us, and so we waited on the bench outside were all the dog kennels were. A sight to which this day still disgusts me. A lady their with her family to look at dogs was holding the leash of a sweet little beagle. The poor thing had the runs( which is very common with shelter dogs, because of the food change whether street scraps or different kibble to shelter food) the lady immediatly held the leash out with two fingers and backed away clearly in disgust and distain. If you don't do your reaserch don't bother with a shelter dog, most likely it'll be too much for you to handle. About 10 minutes after that, the most noble, elegant dog I have ever seen walked tword us. My brother and I were immediately transfixed. Saucey walked like he owned the whole shelter and owned nothing to anybody. They brought him over, this 80lb husky german mix. They told us he had been returned 3 times, just at that shelter and he was scheduled to be put down next week because they had so many dogs coming in they didnt have the capacity to keep problem ones. Immediately I was sold. The volunteers at the shelter all adored him and felt crushed every time he was brought back. They (around 5 including the manager all popped out to talk about him) showed photos of their dogs most of them having around 3 or 4 and talked about wishing to have the space to take him. I understood, at one point we had 5 Aussies in our house, 2 of them being deaf and blind. It was chaos all the time. So I decided to adopt him, my brother liked him but had reservations. We took him home and that first night was terrible, he didnt get along with other dogs. My brother right then and there gave up on him. But I couldn't just send him back, I said lets give it a week, and over that week Saucey would bite and if I ever left he would scream so loud we got noise complaints. Everyone told me to give up on him. After almost a year later, people ask me how I have such a good dog, how his temperment is perfect. But it wasn't easy at all, it took months of dedication, of trainning. And to this day i have to put him in daycare or he'll break out of the house, he broke out of a steelwelded cage I had commissioned. I had never been to an animal shelter before. I took this lovely lady out for a couple of hours to the park. It was so fun to take her out for a field trip and trimmed her bangs up a little too see those beautiful eyes. I wish I could have taken every single one on an outing. Love that this was available. I'm not from the Vegas area but will plan on it being an activity every time I am. Wish there was something like this in central California. Such a beautiful shelter with staff that really seemed to care and love the animals.

I adopted a very sweet little angel from the animal foundation close to 4 weeks ago. I knew she had kennel cough and was cleared the week before we met her and took her home. A couple days in her forever home we realized she may be suffering from a UTI, well we take her to the vet and sure enough it’s a UTI. okay we treat that. the following week she is completely bleeding puddles of blood, immediately took her to the vet and was told she had a blood clot in her bladder and it was more than likely from having the UTI for so long. Okay we treated that. The week after that unfortunately baby girl was suddenly not feeling good. We took her to the vet again and they ran tests and results showed she was in kidney failure. We spent thousands of dollars to help and treat her and run tests and get answers and try to give her a good and fair fight. Unfortunately nothing was answered and my poor sweet baby is declining and she will not make it. Long story short, the animal foundation let us adopt a sick dog and it’s so devastating because although we had a short amount of time together we loved her and welcomed her to our family. I personally just feel like every animal in this shelter should be medically reviewed before saying okay they’re good to go. I am beyond sad and I would hate for anyone else to go through this.

Sonia was nice as can be. She is very organized & fast on the computer. She went out of her way to help us out. She would make a great adoption counselor. Anabella was super sweet. She is definitely a people person. We love her bubbly personality. We recently had to put our cat down. Charlotte was so kind & compassionate. She really made us feel welcome at this location. She is an asset to your establishment and definitely management material. You can tell that they love their job by the way they treat the customers.

Do not get your hopes up if you get in line. I wanted to leave a review for anyone who might be new to their adoption process. We waited in line for an hour to get to the first desk. Supposedly this is where you “reserve” the animal you want: You’re going to put in for your favorite animal or animals and then you’ll have to go to a separate area to actually sign the adoption paperwork. At that first desk they’re going to tell you that you have officially reserved that animal and that it is yours, do not listen to them. Because you might go spend the hour you’re waiting to sign the paperwork, spending time with the animal, and get really attached only for someone else to adopt them before you do on the assumption you’ve already reserved them. So 2 things, until you’ve signed the paperwork, they are not your animal don’t listen to the staff. And second, prepare to spend half a day waiting and potentially still not get an animal. They allows others to come in before you and take an animal you’ve already put in to adopt. I would have understood if they simply said until you sign the papers anyone else can swoop in even if you’re in line to sign. But I had my 7 year old daughter with me and this resulted in tears, for both of us. So also be weary and let your children know if the staff say and animal is yours that it probably isn’t until you sign.

After I had to put my dog down, after a wonderful 15 years, I went to the Foundation on July 5th to find Lola....... Lola has been such a sweet girl in her 2 weeks here! Im not sure why she had been brought back more than once, but hey.... one person's trash is another person's treasure! The staff @ Animal Foundation was more than kind, helpful & friendly. Please adopt, don't shop...... You never know what hidden treasures are behind the walls

The Animal Foundation is a phenomenal experience. We attended a fee-waived dog adoption event and brought home a sweet baby. I did a meet and greet with another potential and he was pretty beautiful,too! The facility is beautiful! Cst condos, dog bungalows, exotic pets - their process is smooth and we even received a crate that was donated for the new member of our family.

I absolutely love the animal foundation I've been going to this place for years to adopt a dog I adopted three dogs here so if you're looking for a pet I highly recommend you going to the animal foundation
