We visited Old Las Vegas Mormon Fort State Historic Park and found it to be a fascinating and surprisingly peaceful stop away from the bustle of the Strip. It’s hard to imagine that this modest adobe fort marks the birthplace of the city, long before the neon lights ever existed. The site is well preserved and thoughtfully presented, with informative exhibits that explain the early history of the area. Walking through the fort gives you a tangible sense of how different Las Vegas once was. It’s not a large attraction, but that’s part of its charm. A worthwhile stop if you’re interested in the history behind the bright lights and want to see a completely different side of Las Vegas.

Great place to visit to learn about the beginnings of Las Vegas. Got to watch the tortise Helen Shelly get fed and the ranger gave my son some fish food to feed the fish.

If you’ve not visited this state park, you absolutely should. It’s only $3 entry and you get to spend some time outside the casino resorts and walk the ground and see the oldest building in Las Vegas. Absolute must whether or not you’re into history, it’s a gorgeous diversion from the usual Vegas hustle/bustle.

My family owned this land originally. My great great great great great grandparents were the first couple married by Brigham Young in the Mormon Church in Utah Calvin and Elizabeth. Not sure how the city was able to take over this land because it is supposed to be inherited throughout the generations just like all the other land that the city somehow was able to gain control of from my family as well. The fort itself is a great place for kids to explore what the early days might have been like.

My daughters, niece, and I chose to visit the old Mormon fort to learn about a piece of Las Vegas history. We enjoyed the informative exhibits, learning about their clothing, daily lives, and diets. Afterward, we also visited Kiel Ranch. The customer service was excellent; after we paid, we were kindly informed that our receipt allowed us to visit other state parks that day. The price was very reasonable at $3 per person. I highly recommend a visit. P.S They have small movie area to watch the history of Vegas.

Super interesting historical site. The staff were very friendly. I loved the resident kitty "Ranger Whiskers". We spent probably 45 minutes looking at everything. Very worth the $3 admission to the museum.
