The Mammoth Site

We visited the Mammoth Site with our Boy Scout Troop while on a Big Trip out west to SD. When we found they offered the Archeology MB we thought "What a great opportunity for our scouts!". Although our group of 34 scouts and 21 Adult Leaders was larger than they typically accept, they made accommodations for us and made it happen! Seth was absolutely amazing! It's hard to keep the attention of scouts aged 10-17, but Seth maintained full attention for an hour and half for the class coursework! Followed by an "active dig session" & Atlatl throwing, then a full guided tour of the mammoth dig site. Our Adult Leadership Team was blown away by the dedication & focused, engaging, teaching abilities of Seth. He related one on one with every single scout. This will be a Merit Badge they'll reach remember for the rest of their lives!! If you're in the area with scouts, PLEASE consider making this stop a 5hr priority.

My wife and I went and visited this morning, and came away quite pleased. There’s nothing flashy or showy about this active museum, but you can very quickly tell. It’s a labor of love for all concerned, as well, as being a powerful reminder of our not so distant past. These guys have put a lot of thought and work as to how the animals died, and the displays show it. From the moment we got there we were made to feel welcome, and the entire experience was quite positive.

that was way cooler than I thought it would be!!! Far drive, but worth the trip. You can walk through the exhibit in 30 minutes or drag it out for an hour and a half. the QR codes made the self guided tour easy. you can listen to the audio or read through it. accessible for young and old.

Always fun to stop in and see the progress being made. A new display room on the north side with more info on local animals and historical data. Also, I recommend stopping at the nearby non profit World Fossil Museum to see actual bones and info on 30 recently discovered species not known about until the 1980s.

It was cool to see, but average. Probably better for a family then two adults. I visited midMay and the snack bar was closed. We spent about an hour here. A family would take longer as there were a couple of kid displays and playroom. Overall though, mammoths are cool and I'm glad I got to see it.

Wonderful exhibit with great interactive displays that even have audio to listen on your smartphone. They had much more to see at this museum than I expected including arrowheads from 10,000+ years ago. The outside has a display of rocks from many different epochs which was neat and free. There’s also a little food stand near the entrance with good prices.

A bit more expensive than I thought it would be, but it was a great experience and very informational. It was well done with the short documentary and the self paced tour with QR code scanners. We love these kinds of things and if we lived closer would be really interested in the education programs.

This is a truly incredible exhibit. I don't think it's often that the public can witness such a significant excavation site.
