The views inside this restaurant and in the outside dining area are wonderful. Also great was the entertained. He wasn't too loud and took several requests. My party of six was sat on a busy night in about 35 minutes, way faster than we expected. The rest of the way, though, was a little slow. It appeared our server was trying to work in a couple of sections. She was working hard, though. The food was okay. We expected more based on the price. The shrimp and grits were good thanks to the sauce and sausage. The crab Mac and cheese was okay. Our visit wasn't bad. Just felt like we deserved more for the price point.

Visitor notes
We loved visiting The Salty Dog - South Beach in Sea Pines. It is a $10 per car entrance fee, so consider a carful if you can - or ride bikes. We found parking easily, though it is limited, but we got there early. When we arrived, I was pleased to see plenty of family friendly activities for the kids & they had live music when we arrived. It was a lovely setting. You are right in the marshland, so it was a bit buggy (you cannot really see the bugs) but i was definitely getting bitten up - but the have a “salty dog” bug repellant that worked well & if I recall correctly, was handmade & organic - so that was a lovely addition. The musician was not only amazing, but was incredible with the kids & kept them busy so the parents could chat a bit at their tables. It was just a great family friendly experience IMO. The food was amazing, server staff was incredible & the location was beautiful. Our wait was not long maybe 15-30 minutes, but they estimated high & sat us early. There is also a pizza stand, an ice cream stand, a bar - all available while waiting. And there is also a general store & a couple of salty dog clothing shoppes to purchase gear in. All in all - I would say 10 of 10 - it was well worth the drive & time it took to get there to have the experience. I had the shrimp & lobster roll (a first for me) and it was delicious. The hush puppies are hot & sweet with honey butter - a must try as well as the fish dip. It was delish!! Here are a mix of my photos and others (from online) since I was so captivated I forgot to take many. PS - the key lime pie was divine!! 💕
Went for lunch around 11am. No wait time. Waitress was amazing. Food was delicious. It was a very warm day out but they kept our water filled. Some bugs while eating but bug spray is provided at the table which was neat!
I am speechless, the wait might have been long but the experience was once in a life time. The service was to the moon and back. Our server was amazing, his name was Shaine and he was kind and funny and made the dinner overall better. The dinner was amazing and had a great overall atmosphere and surroundings. I got the fishermen’s pasta and it left me shocked, I had never had a seafood pasta that was just as good as the one I had tonight. We are so glad to have had the opportunity to eat here. I hope you have a great day Shaine! ❤️ (I think they need to add more stars just to express how amazing this food was.)
Salty Dog Cafe is a popular restaurant located at South Beach Marina on Hilton Head Island. It is best known for its waterfront setting and relaxed, tourist-friendly atmosphere. The views of the marina and boats are the main draw, along with outdoor seating and occasional live music that create a laid-back coastal vibe. The restaurant can get very crowded, especially during peak season, but service is generally efficient. The food is solid but not outstanding, with standard seafood, burgers, and casual American dishes. Prices are on the higher side for the quality. Overall, it is worth visiting for the atmosphere and location rather than the food itself.
Service and atmosphere were terrific. The Buffalo shrimp could have been a little spicier and was good. The fisherman’s pasta was lacking some flavor. The shrimp and lobster were abundant and good. The crab seemed lacking as was the cream sauce. Could have used more seasoning, paprika, garlic, salt/pepper and maybe a splash of fresh squeezed lemon. Good place and would recommend though.
Great views, sticky tables. Our waitress was super sweet! We started with the Hushpuppies, I’m a first timer and I was not impressed. We also got the Fish Tacos, the Turkey Rachel Sandwich, and a Caesar Salad. The food was fine, but nothing special.
Great atmosphere, decent food, good service. There are only two strikes against this restaurant: 1) It's the only place in the Island with Dog in the name but does not allow dogs on the property. 🤷🏼♂️ Their dog mascot is celebrated and storied all over the walls, but your furry friend is not allowed. 2) it's located within the gated community of Sea Pines which requires you to pay to visit behind their gates. You have to pay to gain entry and then turned away if you have your fluffy mate en tow. We keep a small collapsible doggie crate in our car and keep our pup in the car with the windows cracked open, parked in the shade. • Know before you go! ☝🏼
