Visitor notes
Great place for kids! Lots of really good fun exhibits. And the 3D movie was also really good. However I will say that it can get expensive pretty quickly so the fact that we had a reciprocal membership from another Museum was quite helpful. I was also frustrated by the gentleman who wouldn't let me bring the coffee that I bought from the food area right near the gift shop would not let me into the exhibits even though my coffee was completely covered he said that no food or drink was allowed besides water. I saw multiple people bring other food and drinks right past the same gentleman but for whatever reason he targeted me and wouldn't let me in so I had to drink my coffee very quickly and then throw it out which I found to be ridiculous considering I bought it in the facility.
MILITARY MEMBERS BE WARNED- this museum does not participate in the Blue Star Museums program even though they are listed as participating on the BSM website! I am writing to express my extreme displeasure and frustration regarding my family’s visit to the Connecticut Science Center yesterday, June 7, 2026. We traveled 4.5 ours from NY to the area for an event on Sunday, and decided to make a stop at the CSC after our day of travel to let our kids stretch their legs and explore. I found the CSC on the Blue Star Museums website as a participating museum, which means that active duty military families are able to access this particular museum for free from Memorial Day through Labor Day. We figured we’d only have 2.5 hours to explore but since it was free, it didn’t matter. Upon our arrival to the CSC ticket counter, I let the cashier know how many were in our group and that per the blue star museums website, active duty were admitted for free and presented my husband’s DoD identification (he was there with us). One employee immediately asked what blue star museums was, and another came from the back and expressed that the CSC does not participate. I let the employee know the CSC is listed on their website as a participating museum, and was told they do not participate and that the CSC was added “accidentally”. It cost our family of 5 approximately $150 to visit the museum for 2.5 hours. No reduction in rate for the end of the day. The active duty member paid the child’s price of $28 and everyone else in our family was full-price. I was flabbergasted. How anyone can afford that is beyond me, but we paid and begrudgingly went about our 2.5 hours. The end user, us as the customer, should not be responsible for an internal error that for all intents and purposes appears to be nonexistent. There is no signage at the counter, no notice on your webpage, facebook page, etc.- just a surprise bill when an unsuspecting active duty military family travels to your museum (sometimes from hours away), pays for parking, and promises children an afternoon of fun. We will not be returning.
CT Science Center is located in Hartford and is a hands on science museum. There are many exhibits in all the science fields that you can explore; it's also for all ages too. My favorite was the butterfly encounter; there is a room just for butterflies and they do land on you. There is a parking garage available. There are 4 levels open to the public. My family and I enjoyed the exhibits. There were plenty to keep us all busy. My children enjoyed the play kitchen, dinosaurs, and butterflies. Blue Chip Creamery is also located there. I highly recommend it and can't wait to go back soon.
We planned a New England vacation for the family where we were going to visit all of the states. The only science center we have ever been to was our one back home in Pittsburgh. We wanted to experience what another state and cities science center was like so we put this on the agenda to surprise the kids. It just so happens the day we planned on spending the day at the science center was the same day of the Hartford marathon. We eventually found our way to the science center, but it was a challenge. The science center itself was amazing! The kids really loved all of the exhibits and the building was stunning! We ended up spending the whole day here. We even ate in the cafeteria, which we enjoyed. It’s sufficed anyhow. We’re glad that we put this on the agenda and would recommend visiting if you’re in the area and have kids.
Lots of fun with small kids. I brought my 3 year old and 1 year old and we had so much fun going exhibit to exhibit. Fun all around!
Been here several times with my kids. It’s a fun place for kids of all ages, but especially for school age kids who are curious about learning new things. The building has a cool design and some spectacular views of the river. Each level has a different theme and the staff are always so courteous and helpful. The lady working at the monster drawing tables in the DNA/genetics side of the exhibit was so patient with each kid in explaining the same thing over and over. The staff at the ticketing area were also very helpful in explaining discounts that I never knew I qualified for. Kids and adults can easily spend hours here!
We booked a birthday party for our daughter. Everything was well organized, the staff was very nice and helpful, and kids had so much fun exploring the exhibitions! The package includes the admissions for the next time, so we will definitely take our kids there again to play! A little warning: the traditional birthday candles are not allowed! So think about the alternatives. We found the LED candle with a remote, so I made it turn off when my daughter blew it.
