This was our first trip to Fort Stevens State Park. The camping loops are not all open yet and it's a little difficult to see and pick a spot online. We ended up in loop D and while we had a good time the camping spots were disappointing in that they were right on top of each other with little or no grass between. There are some cool things to do in the park 1) the shipwreck what's left from 1903 I think it was. 2) the military grounds which includes gun battery spots 3) the platform on the jetty allows you to see where the Colombia River and Ocean meet. 4) beaches They sell firewood for your campfires and across the street from the entrance is a KOA campground store. Campground is about 15-20 minutes away from Astoria which has lots of things to do, we went by the Goonies museam and the original house. We probably won't camp there again but if your close it's a decent option. Other options are Cannon Beach which is always nice to visit and not far away and Seaside which is also nearby. Camping prices for water and power spots are pretty good and there is a dump station if needed.

We arrived in the middle of a rainstorm to find that our 2 tent sites were under water. The staff was very accommodating, gave us a map of all the available sites that we then got to view and choose from. The restrooms were spotless and very well stocked. Also, they use 2 ply toilet paper, have real mirrors and nice hot water. Sites are a little on the small size, they accommodate a medium sized tent but not many can hold a large or extra LG tent. The firepits are great. They have firewood and ice on site! At reasonable prices. Only negative thing I can think of is the.. MOSQUITOES! FEROCIOUS LIL BLOOD SUCKERS! Bring plenty of deet or you will be eaten alive! Plenty of activities around the area. Museum, war bunkers, beaches, Lookout tower. There are also bike and kayak rentals on site, as well as a full disc golf course. You won't be disappointed by staying here. Just don't forget your bug spray!
A huge park with awesome hiking/biking trails with so much to see. Close to two coastal towns. Information center very helpful.
It’s a cool area to explore! No internet out there so get your parking pass ahead of time if you need it. Plan on leisurely exploring, and take your time! The old batteries and shipwreck are great photo ops !! Plenty of beach access and trails!
I drove into this park because of a posting in the paper regarding a New Year’s Day hike. It was drizzling and just a little chilly. The building structures were very cool and the sense of history was alive. I was the only one who showed up. I didn’t feel like hiking alone and was not aware of all the areas to hike. Otherwise, I would’ve rated this five stars.
Fort Stevens has it all- history, fishing, biking trails, beach access, shipwrecks, razor clamming and more! This is one of my favorite places to come with my family! Make sure to pack bug spray!
Very neat and beautiful park. I started with the shipwreck and Battery Russell before heading to the historic district. I wanted to visit the only mainland site in the US to be attacked by a foreign nation during WWII.
We stayed here for 2 nights and wished we had stayed longer. The trails were great for the kids to ride on and the beach was so fun for them to run on. I'd recommend it and come back.
