We thoroughly enjoyed the time on the train. It was not crowded that day, so we were able to enjoy talking at a regular tone of voice. There were single people, families of all shapes and sizes. Some of us sat inside while others enjoyed being outside watching the scenery. I wish we would have stayed longer at camp, but next time we will.

Avis des visiteurs
Such a great place to learn about the Santa Cruz mountains, trains and history. Kids had a blast as the morning had rain subsided so we were fortunate to have plenty of banana slug sightings after the rain. Their educators there were excellent with the children. Taught them some fun factoids about the critters in the area. Nice little museum, general store, picnic areas.
The train ride to the top of Bear Mtn was great! Fun relaxing and interesting with the back and forth to get up the mountainside. The little engine is a workhorse. We got there early and took a short walk thru the redwoods in the park right across the tracks from roaring camp.
Overall, the roaring camp train was a great experience and definitely worth doing. The training itself is well organized, enjoyable, and offers a unique way to connect with nature. That said, timing matters. If you can, try to avoid the rainy season or weeks with a high chance of rain. Even on a dry day like mine, they keep the wagons covered with tents, which unfortunately blocks a significant portion of the beautiful forest views—probably around 60%. It takes away from what would otherwise be a truly stunning setting. Despite that, I still had a positive experience. For the best conditions, I’d recommend going between mid-May and September, when they typically leave everything open and you can fully enjoy the surroundings.
Amazing place-I love it! There's a lot to do, with easy hiking trails that are perfect for a relaxing day. Sometimes they also have extra activities, which makes the visit even better. The train ride is around $50 and is a really fun experience. Definitely worth checking out
This place has been on my bucket list for a while and I was so happy to finally see it. Tickets were easy to get online but they do sell out daily so, best to get them in advance. I did go on a rainy day. So prepare to bring a poncho. It does have some coverage but not enough to keep you dry.
I came here on my own and went on a run beforehand. Good: - They really play up the acting and make the experience entertaining - I liked that it was a beautiful day and the train ride wasn't too slow and still fun for an adult - There are some nice food options in the area so you can grab food and coffee before riding - The area is super well themed, feels like you're transported into the past - Easy ticketing pickup and logistics - Area is good for a long run! Bad: - We didn't start on time, we were delayed by 20 min or so so I was confused where to go Overall this was a very calming experience and I felt super zen and refreshed as I was sitting on the train.
We went on December 27 it was crowded because of the holiday. It was also raining, we still really enjoyed the experience. The train ride is great with beautiful scenery. The ride length is just right, not ridiculously long. A great experience for adults and kids. They do allow dogs on the train. My only complaint and not a big one was, the conductor who talks on PA system on the trip. He did have some interesting history to share, but he literally does not shut up the entire trip, even when he talks How quiet it is in the forest. Not a hudge thing, my reclamation would be to take some breaks in the presentation.
