Fenimore Art Museum

Beautiful museum building and grounds, impressive permanent collection of artists from Hudson River School, and Native American Art Gallery. Estate grounds with lake views are gorgeous, don’t miss the chance for a stroll after museum visit. One star off for Byzantine photography permit policy per gallery per time of the year according to official brochure: strange restriction when most leading world and national museums are open to photos by visitors (which actually helps to improve museums’ attendance).

Great museum. Drove over three hours in a snow storm to get there. Mom wanted to go see the Calvin and Hobbes exhibit. Lots of other galleries. Would like to visit in the summer.

This beautiful museum is a real find. Located in the quaint historical town of Cooperstown this gem is often overshadowed by the more famous National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. Plan on spending a couple hours visiting it's elegant galleries of American Art, Folk Art and Native American Art. Also you will want to take some time to wander on the scenic grounds next to Ostego Lake.

I photographed a wedding at the Fenimore Art Museum this past August, and it was an incredible experience. The grounds and the buildings on site are so beautiful, and the tent was a gorgeous spot to host the reception. The couple held their ceremony on the back patio outside of the museum, and the views of the lake from that location were absolutely stunning. We took photos near the water, and in green spaces on the grounds, and the entire day felt like stepping into a period romance. I would highly recommend getting married here - it was beautiful in every possible way!

Took the kids to Glimmer nights. It was cheap and the kids really loved it. Hot cocoa and giant cookies. Lots of cool light displays and free carousel rides. A nice little outing if you enjoy Christmas lights.

A must go spot in Cooperstown. The American Indian Art Collection located on the bottom level is one of the best I have seen anywhere. Diversity of art, tribes represented, descriptions posted, manner and lighting of the displays are all truly exceptional. The art in the rest of the museum is also lovely but you should not miss the Thaw Collection of American Indian Art. Highly recommend this gem of a museum. I also loved the Faded Elegance: Portraits of Havana by Michael Eastman.
