If you are in the South Loop and craving authentic Mexican food, La Cantina Grill is a must visit. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere is lively yet cozy, with great music that really sets the tone for a fun and relaxed dining experience.
The food and drinks are both high quality, full of flavor, and clearly made with care. Everything we tried was delicious, and the prices felt more than fair for what you get. It is the kind of place that leaves a strong impression and definitely deserves the hype.
Grabbed dinner with friends since this was within walking distance of McCormick Place. Would recommend a reservation since it was super busy! Got a martini & tacos which came with rice & beans. Also came with free chips & salsa for the table! My friend is gluten free and their staff were knowledgeable about recommendations for her restriction which is always nice to see. This had the typical atmosphere of a Mexican restaurant with good background music and overall vibes. Only minor thing is that since they pack the space, our chairs were against the wall and I had to get up to let my friend out of the corner. It wasn't too loud and we were able to talk amongst ourselves and the staff were very friendly and professional. Would come by again!
José was our server and we had an excellent experience. His recommendations were very helpful as I couldn't decide what to order. The vegan chimichanga with chorizo was so good I couldn't stop eating. 11/10 would recommend
The side rice was the most flavorful that I have had. Well seasoned 😋. Table salsa was fantastic - quite a bit of heat (not certain how they have categorized it as medium). Lot of vegetarian and vegan options. Small place. Not too well lit. Nice for adults, not so much for families. Lunch specials is a great value!
I got some great-tasting food at La Cantina Grill. The food had rich flavors with good balance and some nuances that I found delightful. I enjoyed their location on Michigan Avenue in South Loop. Their restaurant had a modern, hip/cool ambiance with sophistication. Simultaneously, it seemed welcoming and had fun amenities like TVs to make the experience more dynamic.
Best vegan Mexican meal I've had in years. They have a whole vegan menu with staples like tacos, enchiladas, chimichangas, quesadillas, etc... complete with seitan meat substitutes and non dairy cheese and cream that kinda make the meal complete. Everything you see in my photo was completely vegan. Tacos al pastor and a chimichanga, complete with rice and beans. The only thing it was missing was a tasty vegan desert - maybe some day. Shout out to the staff, specifically José, for catering to our experience. Highly recommend.
