The Black Friar was the perfect venue for a Thursday event. We were given our own private room, beautifully set up with a nicely decorated table and a stunning interior. Having the entire space to ourselves, along with a private washroom, made the evening feel relaxed, exclusive and very well looked after. The service was absolutely outstanding. We were hosted by Mark, who was incredible throughout the evening. His energy, natural charisma and genuine warmth made such a difference. From greeting everyone to keeping the flow of the evening smooth, he connected effortlessly with the whole group. There were 16 of us, essentially 16 strangers and Mark’s coordination played a huge part in helping everyone feel comfortable, engaged and connected. As it was a singles dinner, he thoughtfully rotated people around so everyone had the chance to chat, rather than staying in static bubbles, which was incredibly important. Hats off to Mark for that. All the while, food and drinks were flowing perfectly, adding so much to the overall experience. The food was excellent, beautifully presented and really enjoyable. This was my first Thursday event and I was genuinely impressed. Even without a Thursday host present (which was a shame), Mark stepped up and hosted the evening brilliantly, making it feel seamless. I’m very much looking forward to attending more events at The Black Friar and I truly hope Mark will be hosting again. Highly recommended.

Visitor notes
My family and I spent a weekend in Manchester and we couldn’t leave without having a Sunday roast. The food was unbelievable: even though my sister is a picky eater, she enjoyed everything. I’d say the prices are affordable considering the quality of the food and service. The menus are flexible, so if you wish to order just a main course it’s 25£, a two-course menu is 32£, and a three-course menu is 39£. Our waitress was very helpful as well as attentive and recommended that we combine different menus, and that’s what we did. The restaurant also treated us to a side of creamy cauliflower, which was very good. We were 3 people and paid a total amount of 90£ for three main courses and a dessert, namely: an amazing fish and chips, a yummy beef Sunday roast, a scrumptious pie of the day Sunday roast, and a decadent Manchester tart.
We could not have asked for a better wedding venue than Blackfriars. From start to finish, the whole team were absolutely incredible. They thought of every little detail and went above and beyond to make sure our day was perfect. Their care and hard work allowed us to relax and enjoy every moment. The venue was decorated amazingly, with so many beautiful touches and details throughout the pub. The food was absolutely beautiful, the drinks were fantastic, and we’ve had so many compliments from our family and friends about the entire day. A huge thank you to the whole team for making our wedding day so unforgettable. We genuinely had the best time and wouldn’t change a thing. We would recommend Blackfriars to anyone looking for a wedding venue. We are so grateful, it couldn’t have been better.
We came here as a party of 2 for a Sunday Roast. We booked in advance as we know it's popular. It's an easy walk from St Peter's Square. Upon entering, the host was prompt at finding our booking and we were led to our table upstairs. The chairs were comfortable and at the right level for the table. The Sunday menu is based around a choice of 2 or 3 courses. There is a good variety of drinks options as well as sparkling and still water being complimentary. Our order was taken promptly by the two ladies (Maria and another lady) in charge of the upstairs dining area. Their service was good and food came quickly as there is a quick turnaround between tables. The food was delicious and just the right size. Cauliflower cheese is complimentary with the roasts which is brilliant. A good experience and I would come back here to try the other menus during the week.
Went for a family dinner at the weekend and it was the most delightful experience! Food was incredible and great drink selection also. We went to enjoy the Summer of Boddies and it was every bit as exciting as I thought it would be. Special shout out to Sophie for her recommendations and incredible service. Thank you, Sophie!
The Black Friar is a fantastic spot, especially if you want to try a thoughtful and well-executed seasonal menu. The food was excellent, but what really stood out was the service. Victor was wonderful throughout our visit. He took the time to clearly explain the menu and was incredibly polite and attentive when letting me know that my dish would include prawns instead of mussels. That level of care really makes a difference. I also noticed a table of regulars who clearly knew him well. He brought over their usual drinks without them even having to ask, which says a lot about the kind of atmosphere and relationships this place has built. Moments like that are why I will definitely be coming back. A great local pub with great food and genuinely thoughtful service.
Absolutely fantastic pub. Our experience was outstanding from the moment we arrived. The interior décor is beautiful, and our waiter, Will, was exceptional. He took the time to explain everything, even showing us around outside, and truly went above and beyond. He’s a real asset to your team. The food and drinks were also a perfect 10/10!
Great services and atmosphere. Scotch egg was delicious. Rib eye could be slight more fatty but overall flavour is beefy and well seasoned. Bass fillte was tasty as wel, however, I think cod fillet would suit the sauce and overall flavour better. Mull spiced soda was a suprise! It was my birthday so I got a free small dessert cake which was not overly sweet and really suit my pallet.
