Visitor notes
What commitment! We came to see the center of the World but I was so impressed by the history in granite. This was a beautiful display of both art and history! We thoroughly enjoyed it- then we visited the chapel and the maze. Did not disappoint. Thanks for letting us visit! We will stop by when we can read more!
Opens at 10 mountain time, Google is wrong. What an interesting place to visit. There is so much written on these granite slabs. They are like an encyclopedia of the world from the beginning of time until present. The church on the hill was so peaceful. And standing in the center of the world, a cool thing to tell your friends! Dog friendly, too. Gift shop staff friendly and they give you a certificate at the end and she added our doggies names to it. 🙂🙂
Cool to walk around and read all the history. The staff was friendly and helpful. $10 entry fee
Even though it's in the desert, it's best to go early in the morning or late in the afternoon when the weather is cooler. There’s a lot of interesting information to take in, so bring your camera and take plenty of pictures. I really enjoyed my time there. Just make sure to check the visiting hours in advance so you can make the most of your experience. The site is simple and basic, yet very unique and worth exploring.
No man alive has named a city after their betroved , with one exception Jacques-Andre Istel named the city of Felicity Ca. after his only love Felicia. That's only the beginning of his profound contribution to love and life in this world. He has actually certified his city of Felicity to be the Center of the World. With that grand title, Jacques has created a space that tells the intriguing history of mankind in granite. Surely a legacy of profound significance and worthy of a stop on the way to Yuma. This is a extremely rare accomplishment and I want Jacques-Andre Istel and his lovely wife Felicia to know that the impact of their Collective Memory of Humanity is truly appreciated.
It was really cool. We were lucky and we caught them on their last day of the season. They were packing up, they gave us a private tour, let us see the video and took us inside the pyramid. Took plenty of pix, she was really awesome at taking amazing shots. Told us the stories and truly hit the highlights. Theres a children's book too. The view from the top of the hill was incredible. That was the only thing we couldn't go inside but the bells chimed at 2. Theres a lot to see. A lot of history hand chiseled into the granite. Exquisite actually. Native NY-er here, so Manhattan sits on granite. They even had 9-11...my parents wedding anniversary of all days. Go when you have a lot of time, theres so many stones to read. Theres a maze too. A liberty bell to ring and a real spiral staircase from the Eiffel Tower!
As a history buff, I enjoyed the comprehensive records carved on red granite panels intended to last generations, far too much to read in one visit. Topics included ancient civilizations, wars, religions, languages, oceans, animals, aviation, medicine, and music, along with etched artwork. There is also a section of the original Eiffel Tower stairs and a half-scale Liberty Bell on display, as well as a French-inspired church atop a hill. Janice worked alone that December day but was awesome in selling tickets, staffing the gift shop, showing a 7-minute video, guiding us through the "Center of the World" pyramid, issuing certificates, giving insights and answering questions, and taking photos for everyone. Perhaps the biggest takeaway for me was the fact that anyone (in this case Jacques-Andre Istel, now 97) would create such a place - for us all - in an isolated desert. That, along with his personal story, is inspirational and worthy of appreciation.
