I’d adopted a 10 year old Catahoula Leopard dog from this shelter on 03/06/2026, of whom, they’d, misidentified, as being, part Pit Bull, when she is, clearly, a Catahoula Leopard breed. That was their first mistake. The vet, on site, had missed a very pertinent health sign when they had released the information on her health records. I had discovered a golf ball sized lump under her right arm pit which had emotionally had me distraught, because, I had fallen so deeply in love with her! When I had called the adoption center, they had nothing in the report of a lump under her right arm, which is, negligence on the part of the vet and the adoption center. What had really upset me was, they’d proceeded to tell me that I would have to relinquish her back to the shelter for observations and treatments, if needed, and that she would have to be placed in the system again for public adoption in hopes that I would be lucky enough to adopt her again, regardless of whether I had developed a strong bond with her and vice versa. You don’t do that to an animal!!! And you don’t do that to humans who have compassion!

The foster-to-adopt program is wonderful. It helps us to know if we can handle a pet with our lifestyle and gives the pet a home environment to take a break from the shelter. Though I did not end up adopting the dog because we have to fly quite often, I am glad the dog got to decompress. We are blessed because Dawson is potty trained, does not have shelter dog smell, respects physical boundary, and chilled boy (sleeps a lot if nothing to do/ nobody at home), sticks to established schedule for eating and potty. He is honestly the best dog! The staff made it smooth and did not guilt trip us for not adopting the pet at the end. However, it would be more appreciated if they gave us more details about the previous sickness situation and the lingering symptoms if any because we are first time dog foster parents and worried a lot over every single small signs. Praying for all the good boys and good girls here to soon find their forever homes! Run, don't walk for Dawson because he is a treasure! Also, he knows his name so please keep it if you like!

Helped me find my new best friend, Super kind and thorough staff. With such a scale of the facility, I was impressed with The quality of Care for the animals. Additional food, A kennel, and some other toys/goodies. All of her medical documents and documents were provided and very clear/easy for a new dog owner like myself. Overall really positive experience, Thank you so so much! Absolutely love this place

As a County run shelter (pound), OC Animal Care, its staff and volunteers, try their best to care for the huge influx of animals they care for. They are also very easy to adopt from, and most of the time it's even free for dogs over 25pounds. I adopted my Athena girl from here in Dec 2024 and it was the best decision I ever made. Please open your heart and mind to a shelter dog, please help OC Animal Care with any other support you can give.

Please go and adopt or offer to foster and volunteer at this, or your local animal shelter. There is an over flow of sweet dogs in need of loving safe homes. You can save not only the dog you take homes life but the next one in need of that kennel space. Fostering and adopting saves lives.

My experience with this shelter was extremely disappointing. My fiancé and I had rescued a kitten and brought it here to get checked out, spayed, neutered, vaccinated, etc. The cat was scheduled to be picked up and adopted by us, and we were under the impression everything was set. However, when we called the day before pickup to confirm the time, we were informed that the cat had already been released to someone else days earlier. What was most frustrating was that the shelter apparently had no intention of notifying us about this change. Had we not called ourselves, we would have shown up the next day with all the supplies we had just purchased, only to be turned away. I understand that shelters must return animals to verified owners when appropriate. However, this cat reportedly had no microchip, collar, or other obvious identification, and we were given little explanation beyond being told there was "strong evidence" of ownership. Regardless of the outcome, the lack of communication was unacceptable. A simple phone call or email would have prevented a great deal of confusion and disappointment. I hope the shelter improves its communication with prospective adopters in the future.

I adopted my two kitties from here last month and it was a smooth and easy process. While I appreciate that that they're already have a microchip and are spayed/neutered, I wish they could at least do the first round of vaccine that they need along with feline leukemia/aids test and deworming. I understand that may be more cost/work to them but I've heard from people that other shelters do it. That being said, I'm grateful for my kittens. Also, they currently have an offer where you can adopt cats for $50 on Friday instead of the usual $175.

This is more of an operations issue. I called yesterday because I was interested in visiting a dog at the facility. The individual that answered the phone said "just come by, we open at 11". So, I drive 70 miles to get here, only to be told that I'd have to wait 2 hours because the dog is out on a dog walking appt. Really? Information that could have been passed on to me yesterday?
