Excellent visit to the Sioux City Museum, which is a real treasure. We spent 2 hours here on a Saturday morning and easily could have spent all day! My wife worked at a regional culture and Natural history museum for 7 years, and we have visited most of the notables is Washington DC, New York, Chicago and Philadelphia. The Sioux City museum is Excellent!

What a cute little museum! So much culture for Sioux City to learn about. Admission is free, but donations are welcome. Parking free on weekends. Kid friendly. They have a little dinosaur 🦕 area for kids to dig up fossils. They play a movie as well that you can watch to learn more about Sioux City. It's a smaller museum but with a lot to look at and learn. You'll enjoy it, if you enjoy history!

I am glad that I happened to be in town on First Friday and was told about the museum being opened late. I learned a fair amount about the city and region through art, attractive displays and interactive exhibits. This really is a fun museum, in my opinion, and the city has done a great job with it! Without giving away too much of what’s inside, I’ve included some photos of things that struck me as neat, to give you an idea of what they have.

It's a great little museum packed with many many displays. Totally covers the history of Sioux City and the region. Steve and the staff do a wonderful job. I go every time I am in the state.

Truly enjoyed my visit to the Sioux City Public Museum. The pleasant conversation with the front desk receptionist was a breath of fresh air. I enjoyed the 13-minute movie learning about some of the history of Iowa. The love for Iowa, Sioux City, and the people is present throughout the museum's multiple artifacts. The interactive displays are a nice touch. Being able to see real mist/smoke appear while a movie is describing the destruction of a town fire is genius. I also appreciate the displays that explained African-American and Native American contributions/stories and how they intertwined with the rich history of Iowa. Admission is free however donations are accepted. Additionally, remember to show support at the gift shop. Parking meters on the side streets were reasonable during my Friday morning visit.

Great permanent history exhibits. Open space. The dinosaur exhibit was very cool. We were disappointed that there was not more dino exhibit specific merchandise in the gift shop. Pretty cool that a Sioux City Native found a new species of dinosaur!

Nice museum with history of the city, and plenty of exhibits. Among the exhibits are the world's first Corn Palace which predates the one in Mitchell, S.D., an airplane, a paver, various delivery vehicles, immigration to the area, the beef industry, various Native American exhibits, paraphenalia from Sioux City's local rock star that played with Deep Purple, The James Gang, et al bands, various local industries, and also had a movie about the city's history in a wrap around theater. Also has a dinosaur fossil dig that is cool, and a room with gemstones such as exquisite agates, quartz, etc.
