Great nature walk. Like others have said, at times you’re right by the freeway and at times you feel like you’re in the heart of the woods. All the trails were pristinely maintained, and it was easy to just enjoy the scenery and let my mind wander. It was exactly the kind of escape I needed from a hectic day, and close to home!

Purgatory Creek Park in San Marcos is a great place to get outside and enjoy nature. The park has miles of trails that are perfect for hiking, biking, or just taking a quiet walk. The land is full of rocky hills, open views, and native plants that show off the beauty of Central Texas. One of the most interesting features in the park is the finding of the metal arrow head/ point. The arrowhead story is a cool reminder of the area’s history and the people who lived here long ago. It also makes a great spot to stop, take pictures, and rest before continuing your hike. The creek itself can be dry at times, but when water is flowing, it adds even more beauty to the park. The limestone creek bed and clear water (when present) create a peaceful setting that feels far away from the busy parts of town. Overall, Purgatory Creek Park is a great place for families, students, and anyone who enjoys the outdoors. The trails are well-used, the views are wide and open, and the metal arrowhead adds a special touch that makes this park easy to remember.

Nice area for hiking. This area has a network of trails and loops for short or very long hikes. Most of the trails are shaded. At the trail head you will find a water fountain and a primitive restroom. Most of the trails have signs to let you know what trail you are on. I did see deer and squirrels along the trail. I definitely enjoyed hiking here.

Great place to walk trails are clean lots of different places to go and explore was our first time there parking was ok I think we were upper level of the area. Love the trail names. Only complaint I have is people with dogs. I get it it sucks touching poop but hey if u wipe your butt you can pick up after your dog. The park is doing there part but come on people u have a dog your walking your dog ur dog poops pick it up. They have trash can everywhere and places for it. Or hey don't go walking with ur dog. Think about it if u have to go to the bath room u don't drop ur pants and just go u STOP what ur doing to go find a bathroom right??? Be considerate and pick up your dogs poop. And yes I have a dog and yes I pick up his poop every time even when I don't have a bag I will grab extra just in case.
