Virginia Holocaust Museum

It was an informative afternoon. It was a very personal look at the Holocaust through the eyes of Richmond residents who gave their first-hand accounts of this tragedy. I learned details that I had never realized and it was much more in depth than anything I was ever taught in History class. There is a beautiful synagogue area and they have guest lecturers as well. There is a gift shop with cultural items as well as a beautiful exhibit of Jewish items such as menorahs and seder plates. It is a self paced tour that begins with a 15 minute video from the Richmond area survivors. It doesn't solely focus on the mechanisms of death, but rather on their personal experiences and what they had to endure even prior to the camps. I was also shocked at the antisemitism they experienced even after the war. It was eye opening and I recommend it for anyone over the age of 8. Younger children might be restless at the heavy reading and slow pace. The air conditioning was also a nice break from the 85 degree weather. The bathrooms were clean and well stocked. Entrance fees were very reasonable and there is a guidebook you can use as you tour. It's a very walkable area of downtown and close to the Poe museum and St John's church. Many local restaurants and coffee shops nearby as well.

Incredible exhibit of Holocaust. Well planned viewing of each phase of the Holocaust. A must for never forgetting what happened. The self guided tour is easy to follow.

A beautiful and quiet museum to raise awareness about the holocaust! Loved the visit, how large the museum was, and how informing it was as well. Definitely recommend stopping by here if you live in or are passing through Richmond

Went on a field trip with my middle school aged son to this museum. It was very informative and the tour was definitely educational. The artifacts and exhibits were amazing.

This was my first time here to this museum, I am a big history nerd when it comes to these things. Learning about the Holicost and what they went through is very important and sad at the same time. What they went through back then is nothing to forget. Especially when our current president doesn't think it happened. I had a really great time.

This was an amazing experience! Everything looks as if it were the actual event that took place. Very authentic and breathtaking. It's definitely worth going to see and it's A FREE TOUR!
