Science Museum of Virginia

I’ve taken my kids here for the past 25 years. It never disappoints. For the first time I went to the railroad show AND the museum with my (3 year old) grandchild! It was a great experience! Train exhibit was fun - the LEGO train, in particular, captivated us all. The exhibits in the Science Museum have been updated and were very engaging. Although many were for older kids, there were great opportunities for us to explore! It was a great day!

We visited the museum several years ago when our kids were younger. Since that time a number of things were improved. An entertaining interactive educational equipment was set up downstairs. Kids liked it. Also kids always like to compete in running "with cheetah" or "with moue". As for me, this time I was impressed with the Wilson's cloud chamber showing tracks of particles. The museum features a collection of insects like Madagascar hissing cockroaches.

We could spend 5-6 hours there and had great fun. Worth to buy Dome tickets also. Our favorite was the bottle wall and motor control percussion at level 0.

Fun fun fun and very interactive makes this place perfect for a child of any age. Im 45 and had a great time with my 8 year old son. Plan on staying for 3 hours to see and try everything.

The best science museum we’ve went to so far! Many interactive activities, musical, art, educational, physical exercise, mind opening and many more. Specific activities geared towards younger kids and others towards teens. As a parent I enjoyed myself a lot, too. Clean, friendly staff and well organized. Paid extra for the dome movie/show and the dinosaur exhibit. Both worth the extra money. Be sure to look at the daily schedule so you can get the best out of your visit. You can easily spend 3 hours there and even more if you have very curious children. Buy tickets in advance so you get discounts if you are adding exhibits or the dome. Highly recommend!

Beautiful museum that had so much to explore and see. We enjoyed it and the kids did too. Plan for at least 2.5 hours if you’re wanting to see all of the museum.

I really enjoyed my visit to the Science Museum of Virginia, and what impressed me most were the interactive fitness challenges. Running against animals was a fun and creative way to learn, and it actually got everyone moving instead of just standing around reading displays. The rat basketball exhibit was another highlight. It sounds funny, but it was surprisingly interesting and well done, showing learning and behavior in a way that was easy to understand and entertaining. What really stood out is that my wife and even my 14-month-old son enjoyed it. There was enough variety and hands-on interaction to keep all of us engaged, which says a lot—especially when you’re visiting with a toddler. The museum does an excellent job of making learning active, fun, and accessible for all ages. We’ll definitely be coming back.

Took my nephew here for his 10th birthday. Such a cool experience! The dome was pretty amazing. Everything is reasonably priced as well from the snacks to the museum shop! All of their exhibits were interactive, and this is one of those places that adults and children will both like!
