Adventures Underground

Adventures Underground is one of the most interesting bookstores in the Tri-Cities because it’s really several stores rolled into one. When you walk in, there’s a kids section immediately off to the right and the checkout area to the left, but that’s only the beginning. The store keeps opening up as you move deeper inside, and before long you’re wandering through aisle after aisle of books, comics, games, records, and collectibles. The comic section alone is impressive. There’s a large central area packed with comics and graphic novels, but what surprised me most was the size of the used bookstore portion. Mysteries, thrillers, history, cooking, art, humor, science fiction, and just about everything else you can think of. The selection is honestly a little overwhelming, but in a good way. As the author of The Grant Colson Thriller Series, I naturally found myself browsing the mystery and thriller shelves for quite a while. Independent bookstores always have a different feel from chain stores, and it’s fun seeing what hidden gems turn up on the shelves. One detail I really liked was the signage. Many of the department signs appear to be laser-cut wood, which gives the store a distinctive look and makes the whole place feel thoughtfully designed rather than thrown together. There’s also a huge selection of Japanese toys and collectibles. Some of the items immediately brought me back to being a kid, while another part of me was thinking, “Now I finally have adult money.” That can be dangerous. Toward the back you’ll find gaming areas with tables for organized play, and beyond that there’s even a dedicated record room. Every time you think you’ve seen the whole store, another section appears. The staff was super knowledgeable and easy to talk with, which fits the overall vibe of the place. Funny enough, places like this probably influence both The Grant Colson Thriller Series and the Maui Desire Romance Series. Bookstores, collectibles, unexpected discoveries, and interesting people all seem to create good story material. I could have spent a lot longer here than I did.

I stopped by on a whim on the way to get food, and was very glad I did! It looked like a cool local bookstore from the outside, and those are always worth checking out while traveling, but it turns out there's also a full-fledged Friendly Local Gaming Store inside, with all the RPGs, miniature games, board games, and models that come with it, and the comic selection is much closer to a full comics specialty store than a typical bookstore. There's also a records room and an attached cafe/bar. Everything is clean, tidy, and well-lit inside. The staff is great, they checked in to see if I needed anything once, and were present around the store the whole time, no hiding in the back or ignoring customers. I can't remember who rang me up, but he was great! He chatted with me a bit, and gave me some local restaurant recommendations as well. I bought a couple of paperback books, and both were priced right where I'd expect from a local bookstore, a new copy of a book first published in 2013 was $15, and a used Joseph Heller novel in great condition was $10. I'm absolutely coming back next time I'm in town. It's definitely worth a visit.

Absolutely love adventures. Super friendly staff, awesome events and loads of goodies to look through. Definitely a place I can go to decompress for a while. And it's connected to the caterpillar Cafe that have some amazing drinks. ❤️❤️❤️

It’s a great local bookstore! Huge selection of fiction and non fiction, as well as comics. They have board/card games and vinyl records too. It’s fun to thumb through their old cheap second hand records, you can find some gems every now and again. Their staff is friendly, but they are very progressive by Tri-Cities standards, so keep that in mind! I have seen someone lectured/chewed out by the staff for using language they didn’t appreciate. Their prices are in line with a local business. You’ll pay a small premium but I think it’s worth it. The attached coffee shop is a very fun spot to hang out.

Get coffee and buy some stuff next door. Cool place.

Always fun to go here. Love the little claw machine to get a chance to win dice or a mushroom. Super cute stuff and amazing collections of Manga and Books.

They have a sampling of nearly everything from books to games to comics. Love that they support local authors and there was a book signing event today. You can try out board games too with a section to play them in. There is an adjacent coffee/beer shop if you need refreshments. The weather was hot and it was nice and cool inside. There was even a section for kids.

Really cool place with a great variety of things (books, records, hobby things). My biggest issue was the smell, I didn't look around too long because it stinks in there. Ended up buying one book :) fun vibe in the heart of tri cities
