Uncle Sam's

Uncle Sam’s on Shea is a great old-school Phoenix spot with a true neighborhood feel. The food is always solid, especially the subs, grinders, wings, and pizza. It is casual, comfortable, and the kind of local place that makes you want to keep coming back. Great place to grab a bite, watch a game, and enjoy a cold draft beer. Definitely worth supporting if you like local restaurants with character.

First thing we have been going here for years and today was a very disappointing trip, usually it takes about 30-40 minuets to get the food and today we no sooner ordered and our food was brought out, we ordered a whole steak and mushroom sandwich and when it came to our table it was s significantly smaller then what were use too, it honestly looked as if they scraped the food off of others plates to make our sandwich. There was more bread than there was feeling usually the sandwiches are so full that the feeling is falling out and again today more bread and for the price they charge ridiculous. We did not eat our food just made us lose appetite. We did talk to the shift manager, and he said that he would not charge us for it, which is good cause I wouldn’t have paid that price. The photos online are nothing compared to what we were served very disappointed.

Uncle Sam’s “We Want You!” It’s been a while since I’ve been here for dinner and I figured I’d go with one of my favorites. They’re Famous Sausage & Pepperoni Stromboli with extra marinara sauce. Just as expected absolutely delicious.

!! This is the best hidden gem in phoenix. I’ve been going here since I was a kid and it’s still nostalgic every time I go. Not to mention the food is always amazing. More people need to know about this place. Order the Honey Hot Wings. You won’t regret it

The stromboli was surprisingly very good. To me anyway, that's pretty rare. Will never beat my local place back home, but it got 80-90% of the way there. My only tip for the owner is offer it with some marinara or some kind of dip by default. Elevates it greatly.

We were really disappointed with Uncle Sam's this time we ate there. We were so excited to go there for lunch, but it was a let down. Being from outside of Philly & having Italian family back there in the business, Uncle Sam's was our "go to" with the best cheesesteaks & hoagies around, because we used to live in Phx. Things have changed. The prices were high compared to what they were the last time we went. The hoagie didn't have as much meat & wasn't near as spectacular as before. It was just kind of slapped together. The cheesesteak was good, but not quite made like it used to be & not as cheesy as before. The rolls are different than what they used to be as well. The waitress was nice, but not as friendly as we remembered the employees to be. The food came quickly since there were only a handful of people there. Maybe it was just an off day for the cook. It still looks like we remembered inside & that part we love. Sadly, we're not sure if we'd go back. If the food had been as awesome as it used to be, we would have been able to somewhat overlook the prices. There was no need to "happen to speak to a manager" because it wasn't bad, but it just wasn't as great as before. Hopefully they will take constructive criticism in order to make the necessary improvements in the food so they can keep people coming back. Thanks for listening.

I live on the East Coast, and my father surprised me with an Uncle Sam's cheesesteak sandwich 2 weeks ago. They thoughtfully prepared it as a travel kit, and OMG — what a pleasant surprise! It tasted exactly as I remembered. Hats off to Uncle Sam’s for creating the ultimate remote experience. I’ve been a loyal customer since you opened. Class of ’84 SMHS!
