Chico Malo

Excellent location in downtown Phoenix. Walking distance to many area attractions. Great food and atmosphere 👌 Really enjoyed the seating and cozy relaxing vibes. Got to try their guacamole with palmogranite....yum 😋 We had a party of 16 in the back room and even had an outlet for charging our cell phones. 👍

Great atmosphere as soon as you walk in. Their playlist is on point, you will definitely feel a vibe. All servers and bartenders are attentive and have great attitudes. The food itself is amazing making the restaurant a triple crown winner in my opinion. They have it all and you definitely need to make a reservation so you don’t miss out. If we are ever back in Phoenix, this is the spot we will be back too.

Came for an early dinner via reservation, before a concert nearby on a Friday night. It was busy, but not too busy, cool interior and friendly, attentive staff. The food and drinks were a little pricey, but absolutely delicious. We had a Paloma and Margarita with the Birria Flautas, Elote and Ceviche - all amazing! Great for special occasions and highly recommend.

Went for a birthday dinner with a friend. Food was fantastic. Ordered the Molcajete ($36), Shrimp ($27), and Tuna Tostada ($18). The Molcajete, with tortillas and rice on the side, was fantastic and the portion can be shared between 2 people. The shrimp de macha was delicious as well. The sauce that it came with was very good and paired well with the tortillas and rice from the Molcajete. The disappointing dish was the Tuna Tostada. Just raw tuna on top of tostada. I didn't see any Sea Molcajete which would've tasted better. Our server Kloe gave constant check-ins on the food. However, she placed a cup of ice cream on my table and I thought it was a birthday treat but found out after paying that it was charged to my card. While the atmosphere was more toward the dark, fine dining feel, the place was noisy and the music didn't fit. The restaurant does do validated parking at the parking garage in the basement. Just remember to get a ticket instead of using your card at the entry.

TASTY ENCHILADAS, yet small portions. Typically a enchilada dish comes with rice & beans or some sort of side. Unfortunately, Chico Malo's enchilada order comes with only two medium-size enchiladas and nothing else. I was so lucky to order chips because I would've been completely unsatisfied with this visit. The flavor of my green/red enchiladas was great, however it was missing that extra touch. Chíco Malo prioritizes decoration and presentation, over quantity. However, I believe in a balance of quantity, quality, and presentation. The food isn't the cheapest as it's in a nice location of DT Phoenix so I'm expecting a little more bang for my buck. Service was decent, out server was chill guy. He thoroughly explained the menu and gave us good recommendations. The alcoholic drinks were tasty, I think this is more of an appetizer and booze spot after a trip to Mortgage Matchup. The restaurant is huge, dim, and full of space for large groups. It’s inside Cityscape and is full of action during the weekends. Outdoor seating is available.

Just Wow! We stumbled upon this restaurant because we wanted a meal before our Stand Up Live show and it was right next to the venue . My husband had the Pork Verde and we were blown away. This was hands down the best chile verde/pork verde my husband has ever had (and that is his go to meal at every restaurant that serves it). We could not believe how tender and flavorful it was. You always see these videos and reviews where people say things are “melt in your mouth” and we never knew really what that meant until now. It was so tender, you practically didn’t have to even chew it. After every bite, my husband couldn’t help himself but say “oh wow”- after every single bite. I had the red cheese enchiladas which were also very delicious. The sauce was a thick sweet Smokey sauce that wasn’t too spicy. It was very unique and flavorful. Our server was Chloe and she was super great- friendly and attentive and put our order in and brought it out quickly since we’re were trying to catch a show. I never write reviews, but our experience was just so great I had to share. This is one of the best restaurants we have been to and we will definitely, absolutely return.

My aunt and uncle were visiting from New Hampshire, and I wanted to find a good restaurant with Mexican cuisine near their hotel in downtown. I had been once before with friends, and I’m so glad I came back. The hosts were helpful in deciding whether to reserve an outdoor table. The servers were friendly and made sure we were taken care of. My uncle really liked the shrimp ceviche, I found the dorados de papa to be good, and we all enjoyed tasting the salsa trio.

The Chipotle Cauiflower was very good!!! The presentation was nice and very unique. The flavors all worked together well. I would order it again and recommend you give it a try. It was a nice portion, I did not need anything else. I will say if you’re not super hungry, it will be enough to eat and be satisfied, or good to share with 1-3 people.
