Old Shanghai Soup Dumplings

We went in not really knowing what to expect, but overall it turned out to be a pretty good experience. The food was definitely the highlight. The appetizers really stood out—especially the Peking duck buns and the spicy pork wontons with that peanut/chili sauce. Those were excellent. The soup dumplings were something new for us, and honestly, they were very well done—good flavor, not overpowering, and something I’d definitely order again. The beef fried rice was solid too. Where it fell a little short for me was with some of the main dishes. The eggplant with garlic had good texture and spice, but it leaned too sweet, and the garlic flavor didn’t really come through as much as I expected. The General Tso’s was less spicy and more on the sweet side than I’m used to. Both dishes left a sugary aftertaste. Service was okay—more functional than warm. There was a bit of a language gap at times, but they did try to help. Honestly, the food itself felt very authentic—especially the dumplings and wontons—which is what mattered most. The area itself was surprisingly nice—quiet streets, and easy parking on the back streets, which was a pleasant surprise given how close it is to New York. Overall, I’d give it around a 4 out of 5. I’d definitely come back here but also to explore other places in the area.

Old Shanghai Soup Dumplings is a true standout in Palisades Park. The soup dumplings are absolutely outstanding - rich, flavorful broth, perfectly thin wrappers, and that satisfying burst of warmth with every bite. They’re easily some of the best I’ve had. The staff is incredibly friendly and attentive, making the whole experience even better. From quick service to thoughtful check-ins, they make you feel genuinely cared for. If you love soup dumplings or just want a delicious, comforting meal with great hospitality, this spot is a must-visit. I’ll definitely be returning.

Our family’s goto place for Friday. I wouldn’t call their Shanghainese cuisine authentic but their soup dumplings are truly decent. The flavor is great and the skin rarely tear and holds plenty of soup. They are busy during dinner time but the service is always on point. I’d recommend.

This authentic Chinese restaurant serves Shanghai cuisine and it is located in the heart of NJ Korean town. I have been here many times and all the dishes I tried were delicious. They have lunch specials on weekdays that come with hot and sour soup. The soup dumplings are must try. They are always busy but turnover is pretty quick so don’t have to wait for a long time.

Delicious food is even better with excellent friends.  Such a fun day at lunch with my friend and her husband at Old Shanghai Soup Dumplings in Palisades Park, NJ. Obviously their soup Dumplings are amazing, but each dish was better than the next. Their Sticky Rice Shumai may have been my favorite, but the Triple Delight, and Beef Chow Fun were amazing too. It's a cute and fun restaurant, and the service was excellent, and very attentive. Looking forward to our next visit to try the rest of their menu.

We have been here quite often in the past year and we have absolutely no complaints. The food is wonderful and the service is unbeatable. We have brought many friends to the restaurant and they have all agreed that the food is excellent. They have returned to the restaurant on their own many times (and we wondered why they didn’t ask us to join them. Hmmmm…lol). The duck buns, the dumplings, the string beans, the shrimp wonton soup….are examples of the wide selection of dishes they have and they are all EXCELLENT. Go and enjoy!

As a Hispanic customer, I have to say this place truly impressed me! The flavors are authentic, fresh, and perfectly balanced. The rice was fluffy and delicious, the broccoli and chicken were cooked just right, and everything tasted homemade with care. The portions are generous, the service is friendly, and the atmosphere makes you feel welcome. It’s difficult to find a place like this where everything comes together so well. I’ve tried many spots, but this one stands out. Highly recommend it!

I’m not asian but eat alot of asian food and have great experience. I Tried this restaurant for the First time by a mistake ,ordered online. Peking Duck with pancake was so delicious but in the picture of it there are 2 of them! Be aware of that , arrived only one. Next time , I will order more. It was so good but finished in one second lol. Duck was very crispy & delicious. Hope they sell half duck !!!! I would order every day! Fried rice w beef is also very delicious and came out in great portion ! Definitely will order more from this restaurant.
