Old Hickory Bar-B-Que

Great chopped mutton and brisket. The BBQ sauce was good with a Worcestershire-base that was unique and good on the smoked meat. The burgoo was absolutely delicious and full of flavor and tasty meat.

This is my first time eating here so far the food is great. Service is really fast. I ordered the three meat combo, turkey pork, rib, and brisket with beans and green beans

One of my favorite places to eat! Their ribs are by far the best I’ve ever had! That Johns sweet heat barbecue sauce is to die for. I buy a bottle to take home Every time I run low, always keep some in the fridge!

We absolutely love Mutton. We live in Alabama and I don't know of any local places that serve Mutton. My dad was born & raised is Owensboro, KY and Mutton is a staple there. Every time we visit the area we have to stop and buy Mutton to bring back to Alabama with us &/or have a Mutton sandwich while in town. Old Hickory Bar-B-Q is the BEST. I would definitely give them a 10/10. Just wish we had one here in Huntsville, AL or Fort Payne, AL where I was born & raised and still have family living there. We have eaten Mutton at a few different places in Owensboro but Old Hickory takes the #1 spot. Love, Love, Love It!!!!

Wish i could give negative stars.. i am 54 years old and bbq is one of my favorite foods ..However this was inedible ..chopped mutton and chopped pork had the consistancy of dog food from a can ..with a chemical taste..wife got coleslaw was the worst cole slaw i have ever had the displeasure of tasting ..a waste of $50 but learned a valuable lesson wouldnt eat there again if they offered me $50 gross gross gross

Nope. The ribs did have a smoke flavor, but other than that a hard nope. Beans, clearly from a can, coleslaw from a bag. Cornbread from a box. I dont know, maybe they have to prep a lot so no time for homemade? But with everyone there sitting around you'd think there was time, or I am just picky cause as a previous restaurant owner I just didnt cut corners.

My husband has celiac and he found plenty to eat on the buffet. All the meat, brown beans, green beans and apples. Even had banana pudding for dessert.

Perhaps I just had an unlucky experience because I've heard this place was really good and wanted to try but the rest of my table also had a lackluster experience especially some of the folks who'd been here before. I got the brisket and mutton ribs and found it to be very underwhelming. The mutton ribs were about 95% fat. I've had them at other BBQ places and experienced no issues but the ribs shouldn't have been plated. I wish I could say I was exaggerating on the ribs being 95% fat but I'm not they were almost entirely white with thin strips of lean meat to them. The brisket wasn't bad it just wasn't good. Not seasoned not charred nicely just a very bland meat. The sauce was good it just wasn't anything to write home about. I've had better sauce at places with worse BBQ that somehow redeemed it. Unfortunately for old hickory their sauce was not able to accomplish this. Lastly I do believe I understand what's happening. It seems that an important contributor or perhaps even owner passed away in 2018 and a second member of old hickory with 40 years of experience possibly retired in the past 5 years. I believe because of this perhaps standards and quality have gone down.
