Chrysler Museum of Art

Amazing art museum! Tons of galleries completely full of great art. I was impressed by the variety, and by several pieces that I haven't seen anything similar to in larger museums. I brought two young elementary schoolers who were also captivated - there's plenty to look at and we spend several hours there. You could fill up several days at the museum with all the details and information to take in.

First time going to the the Museum of Art, it was a great experience and I would recommend anyone that’s passing through and/or visiting the area to go check it out. I’m a huge G.W. Fan and I saw a few art pieces there that I haven’t seen before. Here are just a few of my favorites. They also had some fantastic antique furniture pieces that were astonishing beauty.

Such a beautiful museum with so much to explore here from paintings, glassware, statues, and so much more. Definitely enjoyed the fact that there were places for children to explore and enjoy. The cafe inside is absolutely amazing. The food was great, well displayed, and properly portioned. Had the capre sandwich with sun dried pasta and it was delicious. My only recommendation would to not leave the drink glasses on the table opening up. Allows for dust to fall into the glass when not in use. Either put it upside down or bring it out with beverage in it vice leaving it on the table. This place is free to expt. I'd highly encourage donations in the main lobby. This will help with the upkeep of the building and keeping it free to the public I'm sure.

The Chrysler Museum of Art is such a great surprise — even if you think you’re “not really a museum person,” this place just works. It’s easy to walk, not stuffy at all, and the mix of art is way more interesting than you’d expect. One minute you’re looking at ancient pieces, the next it’s classic paintings, modern art, or the amazing glass work they’re known for. Everything feels relaxed and well thought out. The galleries are clean, well lit, and not overwhelming, so you can actually enjoy what you’re seeing instead of feeling rushed or overloaded. The staff is friendly and helpful without hovering, which is always appreciated. And honestly, the fact that it’s free makes it even better. It’s perfect for a casual afternoon, a date, or just wandering around when you want to do something different. If you’re in Norfolk or the surrounding area, it’s absolutely worth stopping by. Easy, enjoyable, and way better than you might expect.

It may be on the smaller side, but the collection is surprisingly diverse—ranging from stunning glasswork and classical pieces to thought-provoking contemporary art. The layout is easy to navigate, and every gallery feels thoughtfully curated. It’s the kind of place where you can spend an hour or an afternoon and still walk away feeling enriched. Be sure to stop by Zinnia while you’re there. It’s the perfect spot for lunch—fresh, flavorful food, a relaxing atmosphere, and a great way to round out your visit. Highly recommend both the museum and the café for a lovely, low-key day out.

A great museum. It is clean, classy and a great place to just enjoy some great art. The food at the cafe was pretty solid as well. A cool place for a date.

This very well done mid-sized art museum has free admission. There are over 35,000 objects—including a renowned glass collection—50 galleries, and the Perry Glass Studio, The museum spans 5,000 years of history, with major collections in European, American, and glass art. The glass studio is free to visit and you can watch live glassblowing demonstrations and attend or participate in classes, ranging from glassblowing and fusing to neon working.

Hidden gem of a museum! I only had a few hours there, so I went all in on their glass exhibits. There was a great world history of the media and some beautiful contemporary pieces as well. I'm a Tiffany Studios nut so I sat in that gallery for a long while. The only bad thing was that the glass cases in that section seemed to have some sort of residue on the inside from cleaning so it was a bit hazy. Amazing collection though! I'll be back to see everything else next time
