Even if the room was super small and we felt like we were in "Squid Games" the facilities here were great. We used the 2 pools, gym and even took a Tai Chi class. Location was amazing, right beside Central Park and close to lots of lovely restaurants. Would have been nice to have a kitchen/dining area to hang out. The views are out a tiny window that we found atbthe end of out hallway

Very good place as a localisation near to park, but rooms are old ,not renowned as it’s showing on the photos. So condition of the place might be surprising if somebody is expecting something better. Toilet is far away on the corridor, one on the whole floor. Well for this money I was expecting better conditions in the room.
Even if you are looking for a cheap alternative to new york accommodation, this is NOT an option you should consider. The state of the accommodation is beyond poor. The bathrooms are borderline unsafe and have holes in the walls. The room floors are covered in dir and have clearly never been cleaned. Additionally, the photos on Agoda and other travel agencies are grossly misrepresenting this property. Avoid even if they pay you to come.
Was not a fan of the mold all over the window, AC, and some on the ceiling. The room was dirty and overall very uncomfortable. I chose this hotel because of the great location and price but that was a big mistake. I had such a terrible time and my sister began to have a reaction to the mold so we decided to switch hotels, and I realized the location is NOT worth it when you can literally take the subway anywhere. Aside from the rooms, the bathrooms smelled like mildew and none of them locked. Multiple times I entered a stall and the toilet was clogged.
I honestly cannot highlight anything positive about our stay. The place was extremely dirty. When we entered the room, there were bugs on the bed and on the walls, not to mention the overall condition of the room itself. I am very disappointed. I understand this is not a five-star hotel, but a place that rents rooms with cockroaches should not be allowed to operate. Regarding the bathroom, it was in the same or even worse condition. The sinks were not working properly and were leaking water from underneath, leaving the entire bathroom flooded. It was impossible to even step inside.
This has been one of the worst places I have ever stayed at. We booked a private room with a private bathroom, but the experience was very disappointing. The shower was terrible, there was no hot water, and we had to use the gym showers instead. There were no hair dryers available, not in the bedroom and not even in the men’s gym changing room. My husband had to dry his hair using a hand dryer. There is absolutely no attention to detail. The room felt depressing, almost like a prison cell, we had to move forniture around to make it look more like a room. The bed was very small, which was especially uncomfortable since my husband is 6’4”. Even something simple, like changing the flooring to carpet or something more pleasant, would make a big difference. I’ve stayed in other hostels before, and none of them have been this bad. If you plan to use the swimming pool, make sure to bring a swim cap, or you won’t be allowed in. Also, bring your own shampoo and conditioner, because there isn’t any provided, not even in the gym. The sauna and steam room were decent but not properly cleaned. The staff clearly have no understanding of customer service. When I went to the front desk to ask for information, the person replied to me as if I were stupid just because I didn’t already know the answer. The only good thing about this place is its location, but even that doesn’t justify the $300 we spent for such poor service.
DO NOT BOOK HERE Read the *recent* reviews for this place - ignore the ones with 4 or 5 stars and no comments, as those are probably bots. I booked 10 nights for me and my kids (one 23 yo adult, and 11 and 12 yo) at the West YMCA while we explored NYC. Even though we booked 6 months in advance, we had to be placed in 2 rooms for the 4 of us, which was extremely inconvenient given that the kids cannot walk around by themselves anywhere at the facility, even to the shared bathrooms. There is no outdoor playground, even though it shows one in the photos. There is no common area to hang out in. So you are trapped in an 10' x 12' cement prison cell when you are not exploring the city. We are members of the Y back home, so we expected so much more, especially since we paid just under $4,000 for the 10 nights. The bathrooms are filthy, and moisture covers the floor and walls at all times, so there is no place to put your stuff when taking a shower. The cord to our TV just dangled because it wasn't long enough to reach the outlet. Rooms are not cleaned - if you move something around, you will find garbage from the previous occupant. A couple of times when walking through the hallway on our floor, we saw doors propped open and men laying on the beds nude or with just towels covering their bits. I learned later that this might be indications of 'cruising'. Bookings at this YMCA are intentionally non-refundable, because they know that once you see the room/bathrooms you will want to immediately cancel - the woman at the front desk basically told me such as I was fighting to cancel our reservation. After 4 nights here, we escaped to a different hotel. We were out a significant amount of $$ because we had to double pay for accommodations in NYC, but... IT WAS WORTH EVERY PENNY to stay in a nicer place. If you are considering the West YMCA because of the location, please reconsider. Yes, the location is great, but there are many beautiful hotels at the south end of central park that are just slightly more expensive and you will be much happier.
Staying here feels like a hostel with private rooms. Really enjoyed it, honestly. Simple, keep your expectations low. Bring your own footwear for the showers. Affordable, especially for the location. Mind the $10 extra, per day, per person, for the mandatory membership, which was a surprise. I will definitely consider this place again, for future visits to Manhattan. Our room had bunk beds. Something to consider for anyone who isn't able/ doesn't want to climb to the top bunk. I cannot comment on the other ammenities, as we only utilized the recidency.
