Being a Yank, i don’t have the emotional ties to the artifacts that “southerners” or locals might have but i did enjoy the displays. What really made this museum unique was the knowledge and enthusiasm of the docents and they were very willing to answer any questions we had. Thank you for that. It was well worth the $15 admittance fee. One negative i had was that the lighting was either too dim or too harsh. It is almost impossible to photograph any of the cabinet displays with getting glare from the overhead lights. Having said all that, I’m glad that i came. It does have some unique artifacts and the fact that they were donated by the families of the fallen, really hit home. Nobody can deny the bravery of those that fought in this horrendous war between brothers let’s just pray that unbridled slaughter never happens again on our soil.

Small museum packed with a lot of history. Loved seeing all the uniforms, flags, guns, and other memorabilia. Started with a short video that was very well put together. This is a must see when in New Orleans.
This is the oldest museum in Louisiana. In this museum, you’ll see a large collection of Confederate flags, military uniforms, and Louisiana made swords and guns. Adult admission is $10. You can probably spend 30 mins to 1 hr here. It’s across the street from the WW2 museum. Everything was well taken care of. It’s a self guided tour but yes I do wish they had more information on the overall Civil War.
I arrived about 40 minutes before their 4pm closing. The museum collection consists primarily of various personal possessions of officers of the Confederate Army and some key individuals of the Confederacy. It does not attempt to tell the full story of secession and the ensuing war, though of course all the exhibits relate to those events. It is therefore an entirely different experience from the lavishly narrated WW2 museum across the street. I found it worthwhile, but had no difficulty leaving before closing.
I feel this is an absolutely must see museum for history buffs. The oldest operating museum in Louisiana and second largest collection of Confederate memorabilia in the world. A very large representation of Louisiana units, soldiers and commanders. Original uniforms, flags, weapons and personnel effects all carried in the war. A really fascinating collection.
Great place to take the younger members of your family to be exposed to Louisiana’s involvement in the War Between the States. Suggest securing an annual membership as it pays for itself after only a few visits. Across the street from the National D-Day Museum, which is another great experience but I found Memorial Hall’s compact size gives you the time to be up close and personal. The staff is helpful and willing to take the time to answer any questions. The artifacts are 99% from former Louisiana Confederates because this is why the Hall was originally established. This is the PREMIRE museum to visit to see original flags, uniforms and weapons. Second to none.
Historic and informative. This was a stop for my husband who is a history buff. The building itself is Historic and beautiful. Many original pieces and fascinating stories. Staff was kind and helpful. Would recommend if you're in the area!
This is a small beautiful historical building just across the street of tremendous WWII museum. But it has some kind of unbelievable concentration of real historical artifacts. They are not just depersonalized display items. Every single one of them has true stories behind. It tells you who this thing belonged to, who that person was and what he did. I wish they sell copies some of their showpieces like chest, corkscrew, etc. in their gift shop.
