Mercer Caverns

This is an awesome homeschool field trip. We love coming here to learn about caverns and rock formations. The guides are well-educated and can answer any questions your kids ask. It is a fun and educational experience for the kids and the parents.

Beautiful cavern with a great tour guide. I have been to several limestone caverns but I've never Aragonite! It's beautiful. Take note though, the stairs and steep and plentiful and you have to dodge rocks, not great for those with mobility issues.

It is deep and gigantic. Lots of natural stuff to see. The stairs are circular & I felt dizzy, but that is not their fault. I liked the history of the stairs; they are made from the steel of a US battleship. I recommend a visit here.

Love the tour, going into different "rooms" of the cavern. Our tour guide was very informative, funny, and super knowledgeable. I highly recommend it

The history of this place is fascinating and we had an amazing tour guide. Stairs leading down are steep and a bit awkward but there are hand rails. The gift shop is a great place for souvenirs and also different size bags for the kids to scavenge for gemstones just an amazing place. Tours run every hour I think . we left then came back last tour was 4 pm on Saturday the cave is 55 degrees all year round. Bring a light jacket. Pictures are allowed no video no purse or backpacks allowed leave in car.

Escape the summer heat in this ±45min tour. Many steps and a few tight spaces, but very fun and interesting. Don't miss the best price on gem mining that I have seen. Tours begin on the hour and have limited space, so plan accordingly if you don't want to wait for the next hour.

A heads up, for small groups you cannot book tickets ahead of time. This is first come first serve! We (2 adults and a kid) got here at 11:38 on a Friday thinking we were on time for a 12pm tour but the next turned out to be 12:30 so we headed back to Murphys to get coffee and sandwiches and head back to the cavern to wait a few more minutes. Just to get this tidbit out of the way, if you are the slightest claustrophobic, this is one of the tighter caverns we visited. Make sure to wear closed toe walking shoes. Lots of stairs! So so so much to see. So many fun formations and amazing pure air! Maybe you’ll get lucky and get two super knowledgeable tour guides like us. Think about cracking a geode or doing some gem panning.

Had a great time at the 2:00 tour today! Zeb was a great tour guide, made lots of jokes, and my 6 year old loved it! We skipped Yosemite due to the rain, and it was the highlight of our trip! Definitely worth the drive! The town of Murphys is super cute too! 💖
