So much knowledge to be gleaned here. It’s like walking through an interactive history textbook and seeing it all come to life. Had so much fun learning about coopers and how they make these impressive barrels out of staves( have nothing to do with dungeons and dragons). Seeing what hop plants for the brewery look like and how they are harvested and processed to make hop beer. Everyone is in uniform and they make their own food and parts for the town. I saw the tin maker making candle snuffers, blacksmith making nails for the hinges of the doors and the tailer and the dressmaker making costumes. I learned about flax seed and how that is processed into linen fiber to be woven for fabric…then went to the local store in the village to gawk at some old things for sale. They have a lot of unspecified medications back then, and medicine was not so good. Learned a lot about how life was like for women in that area, who went to school to learn practical skills but dropped out from school if they were getting married. Also was super surprised to see the workers cooking traditional American pastries in the historic homes. They were very convincing! Just a really great educational experience trying to get a feel of how life was like, and because it is enacted it is so much more realistic and interactive compared to a regular museum with glass cases. I had such a good time, and appreciate my life so much more after going there. People in those times—- and it’s like only 200 years ago, have to spend the majority of their day just surviving and harvesting food. They did not have nearly as much protein as we do now, they had to hunt to supplement their diet. Even if they had iPhones they would not have the time to relax.

What a fantastic experience at Genesee Country Village & Museum! Jessica and Joane were outstanding, and both of their tours were informative, engaging, and enjoyable from start to finish. The entire village is beautifully maintained with incredible attention to detail, and the cast members truly bring the historic setting to life. Their passion and dedication make the experience feel authentic and immersive. I highly recommend a visit!

This place was absolutely amazing. There are tons of old homes and buildings that have been relocated here from all over the area. There are several Craftsmen and living history people through the village. They are all very friendly and very informative. We spent 3 hours here and could have easily spent a whole lot more. I would gladly come back here again!

A great day adventure. So much history and the docents are so knowledgeable. It's fun to see some of the trade work in action. Bonus: this is an excellent spot if you are a Pokemon Go player!

My friends and I attended the Owl Moon event this past Friday night, and it was such a fun, unique experience! It was definitely something different, and honestly, even more enjoyable than I expected. The staff (owl experts and tour guides) were wonderful, and the visiting team from Wild Wings Bird Rescue was fantastic. The evening included an educational, guided night hike through the woods, and while it was cold (definitely dress warm and bring HotHands for hands and feet!), it ended up being a beautiful winter night to be outside. Although we didn’t see or hear wild owls during the hike, that didn’t take away from the experience at all. Being out in nature on a well-groomed trail, surrounded by friends, family, and fellow nature-lovers, was peaceful and refreshing. Our guide, Kris, was incredibly knowledgeable, clearly an owl expert, and shared so many interesting facts about owls and the different species found right here in New York. One of the highlights was meeting the rescue owls brought by the Wild Wings team. Getting to see them up close was amazing, and the handlers were passionate, engaging, and clearly loved what they do. There was even a fun stop where someone dressed as an owl made an appearance, and guests could participate in dissecting owl pellets, super cool and educational! The hike itself lasted about an hour, which felt like the perfect length. We stopped along the way for owl facts and moments to take in the quiet, beautiful surroundings. The trail was easy to access and navigate, no difficult terrain, but I definitely recommend wearing snow boots rather than sneakers. Before and after the hike, we had time to explore the gift shop and grab snacks and drinks. The bathrooms were clean and easy to access, and the entire facility felt welcoming and well-maintained. We purchased our tickets in advance through the website, check-in was smooth, and the event felt very organized. Everyone working there was kind, enthusiastic, and happy to be there, you could truly feel it. After the event, my friends and I grabbed dinner nearby, which made for a perfect night out. This was such a great mix of nature, education, light hiking, and quality time together. It felt safe, engaging, and like a really meaningful way to spend an evening. I absolutely recommend checking this out if you’re looking for something a little different to do on a Friday or weekend night. It was only about a 30–35 minute drive from where we live and totally worth it. I learned some fascinating facts about these truly majestic birds and left feeling refreshed and inspired. 🦉✨ Highly recommend!

Always loved this place as a kid, so we went as I am now a seasoned adult. We went at a time when there was children trick or treating that had a lot of fun. It's a several hour or day trip to everything. If I had known about their tea time, I would have signed up as I thought it was so cute, and it smelled wonderful. Was able to get in a walk around before the tea started. So much to see. I love how people are dressed up and want to give you a good experience. Good energy there and a lot to do. I am not excited about the gift shop as I once was as some things like candy or a drink were definitely priced well above what they should be, although the homemade items there were nice to see.
