Definitely a hidden gem! It’s one building, but stocked full of WW1 and WW2 memorabilia. They had a WWI exhibit that showed what it would’ve been like in the trenches. Lots of old newspaper clippings all the way back to the late 1800s/ early 1900s to the JFK assassination. They have a few small to medium sized planes and helicopters outside with placards describing what they are and were used for. Awesome view of Hangar One.

The Moffett Museum is actually very small — basically just one big room. You also won’t be able to visit the iconic Hangar One area, as it’s off-limits. There are a few small aircraft on display, but honestly nothing particularly special. Surprisingly, the part we enjoyed the most was a tiny room with a large model train setup — that was actually pretty fun to see. If you’re already within a 15-minute drive, it’s worth a quick visit. Otherwise, I wouldn’t go out of my way to come here.
An unforgettable Deep Dive into Aviation History! Truly a Hidden Gem in the Area! We had a truly fabulous Saturday at the Moffett Field Museum. It's an intimate space, but there is an incredible amount of history and carefully curated discoveries packed into every corner. The highlight of our visit was a full, free tour around the museum with Reggie, who is an absolute treasure. He brought the history of Moffett Field to life through vivid stories, personal anecdotes of his time flying, his squadron, and his deep knowledge of the aircraft. He was funny, interesting, and incredibly engaging, he wasn't just reciting a speech, but genuinely bringing everything to life with questions, anecdotes, and his own memories of how things worked or where he travelled in the world. We even got to climb inside the cockpits of the training simulators and look inside museum aircraft to truly experience life as, for example, an Air Force pilot or technical engineer. The displays were thoughtful and interesting, featuring uniforms, equipment, a video on how the dirigibles and blimps worked, and a really great audio simulation to experience being a sonar operator listening for nuclear submarines. We weren't expecting much when we arrived, and at first, the amount of information can be a little overwhelming. Just take your time and wander, or even better, ask one of the docents or volunteers to show you around for a more immersive experience. Highly recommend! Maybe you'll even be lucky enough to get Reggie's tour!
If you take interest in war memorabilia, airplanes, submarines and war stories, this is the place for you. The docents are veterans how love sharing history with you. Small, yet satisfying museum to visit. It felt kids friendly, my boys loved the time there.
Took my son here for his 7th Birthday. The WWI exhibit was amazing, with an incredibly knowledgeable docent; well worth the money! All the docents were so attentive and were clearly passionate about sharing their knowledge and showing the collection and exhibits. We were lucky enough to run into Ed, who restores and maintains the tanks, and he let my son explore the interior of a couple of their tanks. Made my son’s dreams come true!! Amazing experience! Thank you so much to all staff and volunteers!
What an awesome experience! I've always wanted to visit the Moffett Field Museum, and even driving onto Moffett Field was an incredible experience. I took my son, and we had an absolute blast. There is so much to see, with countless historical artifacts that tell the story of Moffett Field and its important role in the Bay Area. One of the best parts was meeting people who served in the military and hearing their firsthand stories and experiences. It really brought the history to life. This place is truly amazing, and there's so much history to explore. It's the perfect place to bring an inspired young child who loves NASA, aviation, or the military. It was an unforgettable experience for both of us, and I can't wait to come back again. Highly recommended!
Really nice museum. Lots of ww2 history. Had a replica of trench that was very authentic, you walked through with sound effects.
The Moffett Museum is a nice little stop — there are a few planes, a helicopter, and some interesting displays with photos, stories, and artifacts. But I have to say I was a bit underwhelmed. It’s quite small, and the large building next to it seems to be under construction (I think Google is renovating it). Inside the museum, there’s definitely some cool stuff to see, but overall it felt a bit limited. I’ve seen more impressive aviation museums. Still, worth a quick visit if you’re nearby.
