George Washington's Mount Vernon

This place was awesome. I would definitely recommend getting the in-depth private tour it is well worth it. You learn a lot and get to see a lot more. What if you from the back and the front of the mansion. Very cool history here. Give a shout out to Peter our tour guide did an awesome job and new and whole bunch about the place

Very beautiful mansion! Very family friendly and pet acceptable. Mount Vernon itself is on a pretty decent size of land so be prepared to do some walking. For those who may not be able to get around as easily they have a shuttle. There’s a lot to do so be prepared to spend a couple hours here. We did the boat tour which takes you along the Potomac River, but buy tickets in advance because you can get a discount.

Loved it! We went during the reenactment weekend which included a Washington and a LaFayette conversation. Both reenactors were outstanding in their roles. We were there 2 days and still didn't see everything. The museum was small but memorable in the high quality of artifacts. The Ladies Association has done a wonderful job and I recommend going for the full membership instead of a 1 or 2 day pass. We already realized savings beyond the price difference with the discounts on site and the reciprocal museum benefits. Kudos for hosting a phenomenal weekend!

Exceptional! The home, the outbuildings, and their history are amazing, and the museum has engaging and interactive exhibits that give appropriate homage to Washington. Membership was a great choice--almost the same price as general admission, plus "direct" access to the mansion, plus the discount at the store. Wish we would have spent more time there, especially for the off-site portions of the museum.

Loved our visit to Mount Vernon. It has been incredibly restored and now cared for. It was great to visit and think about how our first leader lived and the life he built on the banks. Such a cool location for a home as well and with the walk down to the Potomac you learn why it's called mount. The tour was great from our phone and earbuds, it was nice to walk around and learn things just from the phone.

This was our last tourist attraction visit while in the DC area, and it was spectacular. We found parking fairly easily and then made our way to the estate. We were able to tour most of it, but some of the buildings were under renovation. We did get to see some of the main house and walk through the rooms. For two history buffs, this was pure joy. There were volunteers to answer our questions and guide us across the huge estate. We did do a lot of walking to see just about everything and the gorgeous weather during our visit was a huge bonus. There is a tram to take tourists around if you prefer not to do a lot of walking. We found the area where they think the slave's graves are to be the most interesting and unexpected part of our visit. The tour also includes the burial site of George and Martha Washington. This is definitely an all-day to do right kind of place. The views along the Potomac River are breathtaking. And don't miss the huge shopping area known as the Shops at Mount Vernon

I recently visited Mount Vernon, George Washington's historic estate in Virginia, and it completely exceeded every expectation. This is hands-down one of the most impressive and moving historic sites in the entire United States. From the moment you arrive, the stunning views overlooking the Potomac River are breathtaking. The mansion itself is beautifully preserved and restored—walking through the rooms where Washington lived, worked, and entertained feels like stepping back in time. The attention to detail in the furnishings, the outbuildings, the slave quarters, and the gardens is exceptional. I especially loved the beautiful flower gardens and the serene, peaceful atmosphere of the grounds. The educational value here is outstanding. The exhibits, short films, and tours provide a rich, balanced, and deeply human look at Washington’s life as a farmer, soldier, and leader. The new education center and museum are world-class, with fascinating artifacts and interactive displays that make history come alive for all ages. The staff and volunteers are incredibly knowledgeable and passionate. Everything is well-organized, clean, and easy to navigate. We spent over 4 hours there and still felt like we could have stayed longer. Whether you're a history buff, a family looking for an enriching day trip, or just someone who appreciates beautiful architecture and landscapes, Mount Vernon delivers on every level. It’s more than just a historic house—it’s a powerful reminder of the foundations of America. Highly, highly recommend. One of my favorite visits in the DC area by far. 10/10 — I’ll definitely be back!

This was one of the worst experiences I ever had at any national landmark or historical site. I was a few miles from this location and decided since it's such an important part of American history to stop and explore. Parking was free. Everything is immaculate. There are public areas that you can access before going back to the actual property. I was blown away that the cost to get into something that is the birthplace of this country's first president was going to be $30. I'm a traveling artist and have been fortunate to explore many historic sites for free along my travels. That's the benefit of being a traveler and exploring your own country. I initially spoke with a host at the front gate about the situation and I stated that I was traveling. I had just passed by and inquired if there was a discount available or even a donation. The individual told me that wasn't possible but that I could speak with the supervisor which immediately made me feel like I was being difficult. I was friendly when I approached the ticket booth. I explained my situation. When I inquired if there were any discounts available or any sort of donation, I was rudely told that only the people that paid to get inside could go inside and that they were not funded by the government so it wasn't their responsibility to help anyone who wanted to see the property and that they were privately managed. What was most disconcerting was that this was on a speaker that was coming out of the ticket booth. So everyone else that in line could hear this person reprimanding me for asking for a discount and then furthermore eviscerating me for implying that something that is the home of our first president should be available to everyone and making me feel very small. They have a membership where you can pay over $100 dollars and return as often as you'd like. That's great for someone who wants to go back and forth. For someone who's just coming through visiting a site by the time and you factor in two adults and two kids, you're easily at $100 and then they have all sorts of add-on fees for other parts of the property and the tour. This is not affordable for any normal family that's not middle class or better to sustain and travel while they are on their journey. I felt that this business was set up to be exclusionary to those who do not have access to additional finances or are not top of the middle class chain. It represented to some degree the political motivation to forget about those who are of less fortunate or, those who are working very hard to be successful but every penny matters. They could have suggested a small donation. They could have handed me a card with a venmo or a PayPal to donate later. There's a lot of things they could have done to bypass somebody feeling uncomfortable yet welcoming them to the property. By having such a large entry fee they also cost themselves money because a lot of that extra money would be spent at the gift shop, coffee shop, snack bar or buying souvenirs. However, in the end I felt disrespected and marginalized by the individual working in the ticket booth who smugly dismissed me as if I was a problem and not someone who was important to their property or to their business who also could make an important contribution by sharing my perspectives about the property in a positive light had I been able to experience it.
