We were on our way to the Black Canyon of the Gunnison when we saw this Museum off the road; couldn't pass up an opportunity to visit an Easter Egg location! This was one of the coolest historical museums I've been to, and they multiple fun facts to explore. Most of if not all of the buildings on the property have been carefully transported to hold the authenticity and have amazing structure. There's so much to see, definitely worth the visit!

This is a wonderful museum with items from the 1800s and 1900s! The inside has different rooms set up for displays in the form of store fronts in a town. Examples include dentist office, saloon, general store, etc. The outside has buildings rescued from destruction and then set up in appropriate time period decor. The tour guide was very energetic and knowledgeable. They even have a friendly dog greeter.

This is an outstanding museum. Not only do you get to see vintage apparel, weapons, dry goods, etc, it's an entire village. All that and the admission is less than a single historic home tour in the Denver Metro area. A MUST SEE for history enthusiasts. AND you can have a little wedding in the church there. Absolutely fantastic!

An incredible hidden gem in Montrose—fantastic for families! What a spectacular find! We were in Montrose with our 5 grandkids and happened upon the Museum of the Mountain West. It is an absolute treasure. The museum features an amazing collection of historic buildings that were carefully relocated from their original sites and beautifully refurbished.Every single building is packed with a massive array of authentic artifacts collected over a lifetime by the incredible founder, Richard Fike. Seeing things like Butch Cassidy’s saddle, Sitting Bull’s autograph, and the historic rifle collection was unforgettable. We loved exploring the general store, the barber shop, and the post office, but the hands-down favorite for the grandkids was the jail! If you are anywhere near Montrose, do not pass this up. It is an amazing experience for all ages!

Option to do guided tour or self guided. Guided tour is about 1.5hr, highly recommend! There are artifacts of all kinds guns, apparel, saloons, medical/dentistry, tools, foods, music literally everything. The owner, Mr.Fike, was also there! You will love it
