Loved it! The house was the highlight. It's absolutely stunning and the volunteers were so friendly, knowledgeable, and informative. What I really appreciated was how kid-friendly the museum was. There's a fun scavenger hunt to keep kiddos engaged while touring the house, coloring pages in the cafe, a beautiful playroom on the lowest level, and outdoor toys in the courtyard. This was the only museum where I felt like my child wasn't just tolerated, but actually welcomed. Other museums should take notes! Great location, clean, friendly staff and volunteers, free parking lot. Reasonable entry fee.

The American Swedish Institute is located on Park Avenue along with old Minneapolis mansions. The mansion here is huge, it was built in the early 1900’s and it’s stunning. It’s well kept. It’s worth the visit to see the glamour of 1900’s. You connect from the modern building on the front. The modern building perhaps stays bushier and the mansion gets some visits but not a ton. I prefer the mansion. Free parking.
This is quite an interesting experience. The old house was absolutely fantastic. It's both very strange and very beautiful. The volunteers were extremely helpful in offering information about the house and the area. The third floor was a little confusing, because we couldn't figure out which room the daughter used to live in. The rope art was kind of weird and didn't really seem to fit in.
This place is absolutely beautiful and full of charm 😍. The home is decorated with stunning period furnishings, and the craftsmanship really stands out-especially the rich woodwork, detailed paneled rooms, elegant mantles, and that eye-catching staircase ✨. There are also unique tile heaters throughout, which add to the historic and cozy feel of the space 🏡. The seasonal decorations were done wonderfully, making the whole visit feel even more special 🎄🌸. I also really enjoyed the café, which offers tasty Swedish pastries along with drinks like coffee, beer, and even aquavit ☕🥐🍺. The gift shop was another highlight, filled with creative and interesting items-perfect for browsing or picking up something unique 🎁. Overall, it’s a first-class experience and a great way to spend a couple of hours. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone looking for something both relaxing and visually impressive 👍😊.
If you like architecture and a great story, this is the place for you. We started out by having a snack at the FIKA restaurant that is located on the premises. The food that we had was excellent highly recommend having your meal or a snack before you go to her the Institute. The staff was so friendly and very knowledgeable of everything inside and the story of how this mansion got built that was then donated to the American Swedish Institute. The tile fireplace you see in the picture is only one of at least 8 different fireplaces made out of tile in all the bedrooms and several other rooms throughout the mansion.
Really lovely, wish I had gone sooner. Jaw-dropping architecture and the textile display currently up until June is a must see. Staff is great.
Very cool way to experience the swedish heritage in Minneapolis! The architecture is absolutely stunning and we visited when a Weaver's exhibit was up! The people were friendly and helped us learn more about the history of the mansion. Super cool visit!
I felt like I was walking through a fairytale. The woodwork is amazingly intricate, the ceramic fireplaces were stunning, the decor was festive. Friendly folks, family friendly, & free to explore most of the mansion. I went on a difficult day for me, the birthday of my partner who passed away, the atmosphere was warm & helped me feel less alone.
