What a great experience! I've lived in the DFW area for almost 10 years now and never new this place existed! The gardens were gorgeous and the trails were concrete so very easy to traverse after having two knee replacements just 18 months ago. The small pioneer village was a lot of fun as well. My grandkids (2 and 6) came for an extended visit a few weeks ago and I was unsure how I would entertain them beyond the waterslide and 10' pool. This was the perfect way to spend the afternoon. The dragon trails were AMAZING! The kids were both so excited to see the next dragon on the trail, I felt like that part of the day lasted only a few seconds! LOL I wish I wouldve had the opportunity to visit a month ago when the flowers were in full bloom and the weather wasn't so hot. The butterflies were also a big hit!! We will definitely be back next year with or without the grands!!! The inside and actual museum had a few interesting exhibits but I feel like most of the exhibits were empty. I'm sure that has a lot to do with its "non profit" status so I was fine with that and more impressed with how well kept and beautiful the grounds were!

We went with kids. This place is good. We all liked the nature trails, Dragon display, walking along the boardwalk in the swamp area. Kids saw many small insects and birds along the trails. Museum has a good display. Each of the animals, birds & reptiles kept here has a name of their own ❤️ they each have their own story as well. The small model village with small homes is a good place for the kids to explore & play. Well maintained and worth the visit 👍🏽👍🏽 The Dinosaur exhibit will open on September of this year. Currently the Dragons are on display. Butterfly garden is closed now, it's also seasonal. We went on Hoot Owl Trail, Blue Stem trail and Wood Duck trail. The Blue Stem trail to Wood Duck trail has the swamp area board walk, we all loved it.

love coming here so much that I started volunteering here! beautiful natures trails, great indoor exhibits, tons of cool animals to see as well. very kid friendly obviously but the nature trails are great for adults too. I believe they’re about 6 miles long across the whole preserve, so perfect way to get your steps in.

Such a lovely little natural science museum with lots of walking trails. We enjoyed the dinosaur fossil displays and the wildlife sanctuary. They also had the dragon trail which was fun for my kids. Definitely stay on the paved trails because there are snakes around!

We had a great time at the Heard Museum! The hiking trails are beautiful, and the scenery is really nice. The current Dragon Trails exhibit was a huge hit – my son Lucas loved seeing all the animatronic dragons move and roar. Highly recommend for a fun family day out!

After enjoying some local BBQ, I was looking for a spot to get back into nature and log a few miles. I’m glad I found the Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary. They offer about five loop trails with a good variety of terrain, including dirt paths, wooden boardwalks, and paved sections. All of the trails were easy to navigate but very scenic. I managed to log about 3–4 miles by connecting the different loops and thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon. There are plenty of educational stops throughout that explain the local ecosystems and the impressive restorative work being done in the sanctuary. Even though I wasn't there with children, it’s clearly a great family destination. They had festive Christmas decorations set up, and one of the loops featured several impressive, full-size dinosaur replicas. It’s a peaceful, well-maintained sanctuary that offers a great escape into the outdoors.
