It was my first time here with a few friends attending Alicia Keys' giant gallery. I had lunch at the café inside the museum and ordered a pasta salad, which was pretty good and reasonably priced at $8. Next to the café was a fancy ocean-view restaurant, perfect if you're in the mood for a formal sit-down meal with a beautiful view. We also enjoyed a free jazz festival in the afternoon. I went up to the top floor for a spectacular view of the La Jolla coastline, and honestly, the day couldn't have been any better. I would come back again. What a wonderful place to visit!

Our first time at this museum didn't disappoint. They honored an educator discount, and I really appreciated that! Stunning art and stunning views of the ocean. Very easy to navigate and plenty of restrooms. Highly recommend!! We went on a Sunday around opening and although it was fairly busy, it never felt crowded.

This is a fantastic place to visit. It's been many years since I visited but I was not disappointed. Definitely one of the best museum galleries in San diego. Doesn't look like very much to it from the outside but once you enter it's an enormous display space. Each room designed to perfection to shut off the mini works of art.

I got there by 11:10 a.m. was worried about parking. Was helped quickly by the person behind the desk. Also there was a gentlemen who helped me with my phone to hear the video which could be heard along the walk through of the exhibit. I did not know that if you were on SNAP that you were allowed free entry. I appreciated that information given to me by the front desk person. I took my time and took pictures along with some videos. I enjoyed the 3rd level area where you come get some fresh air.

I would have liked to have spent more time here, but I only managed about 55 minutes. The positive aspect is that none of the museum's exhibits were closed. While some pieces were less impressive, the exhibition featured a diverse selection, including several large-scale canvases (over 8 feet tall). There was a variety of artistic mediums and sculpture sizes represented. This is definitely a place where you can get a good value for your money, especially if you're a student (all college & university students from any state get in for a discounted price). Better yet, young adults under a certain age get in for free. You'll also find discounts available for seniors over 55. This location offers beautiful ocean views and ample space for walking around.

The Giants exhibit was incredible and inspiring. I love how this collection of art is highlighting people of color. Bonus, the museum has wonderful views of the ocean.

Go see this. Seriously. GIANTS at MCASD is one of those exhibits that stays with you. Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys collected these works with real intention - you can feel it. Over 130 pieces by Black American and diasporic artists, and the scale of some of them is genuinely jaw-dropping. There’s a 25-foot Mickalene Thomas that stops you in your tracks. What makes it different from your typical museum experience is the energy. The walls are painted in bold colors - emerald, teal, red - and Swizz curated a playlist that’s running throughout. It doesn’t feel stuffy. It feels alive. The collection moves through different themes - origin stories, artistic legacy, social critique, Black joy - and it all flows naturally. This is the only West Coast stop, so if you’re in San Diego, there’s really no excuse not to go. It runs through August 9th. One of the best things I’ve seen at MCASD in years.
